My favorite engine is the KATO 2-8-2 Mikado, 2nd favorite is the CON -COR (KATO) 4-6-4 Hudson both run like watches. I have 7 Mikados and 5 Hudsons, I guess I'm hooked?!? Keeping fingers crossed on the new BACHMANN 2-8-0 Consolidation. I have 3 on order.

I must say that my favorites are my cascade green Kato BN SD40-2's. Not only because they are good lookers and great runners, but because they single-handedly brought me back into the hobby after about 5 years. Seeing a good-running SD40-2 in N-scale that was DCC-READY was too much to resist.

Honorable mention goes to my Warbonnet Dash 9's and my LL Santa Fe GP20's.....great little yard goats!

Wishful thinking award goes to my new Atlas SD70MAC's in Green and Cream!!! :D

My fav? A KATO C44-9W with BNSF markings.
I do also share the pain like FRISCOBOB. My CFO (my darling wife) has got me under verbal contract that all train related spending is on hold until Feb 2002!

I intend to keep this promise! :D :D

    Merry XMAS everyone!

Right now my number ones are the SD60's and SD60M's from Atlas. I have 2 BNSF, 1 EMD-1, and 1 EMD-Oakland. Great looking and great runners.

At number two, Kato's Dash-9's. I have five of these, 4 BNSF and 1 ATSF.

My third favorite engine is my Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern in ATSF!

I can't imagine any other engine taking the place of my very favorite. A PRR 4-4-4-4 T1.
I know it's a once in a life time brass but 'what a life'.

My current favorites are my Life Like C-Liners, of which I will soon have all 7 numbered sets in CPR. The are quiet (unlike the real thing), smooth running and have outstanding pulling power.
Also, I still have a soft spot for my Kato SD-40's and I really like the performance of my 2 new Spectrum 2-8-0's, as I find them at least on par with my Kato 2-8-2's (I plan to get more of both).
    Cheers.

Bad news: I had to scratch the GP38 order :( Good news: I picked up a LifeLike SW9. It's a nice-looking diesel, and (aside from a little noise) runs smooth [IMG] This gives me three LL engines:

SLSF E8 (in full "Racehorse" colors)
    BN GP20
    CNW SW9

    and two Atlas engines:
    CNW GP7
    undec RSD4

The GP20 and GP7 get repainted, but I'm not touching the SW9- I like the quality of the paint job.

With these diesels, I'm able to compare the two makers. I give Atlas the lead, with LL very close behind. Can't say anything about Kato, since I don't own any (yet).

I'd have to say my trio of gp20's, 2 wearing BN colors and 1 in CB&Q livery. The 3 really look neat together when the CB&Q unit is run between the BN units. My favorite as far as other modelers are concerned would have to be either Gary's gp10's or the Colonel's highly weathered gp20. Too cool! DR

I have to admit my 4 GP20's would have to be the most utilised locomotives on my roster. I have 2 UP an SP detailed and weathered by GATs (Pictured) and a Cotton Belt GP20 E which was detailed and modified (originally an SP) model.

I will post a pic of the Cotton Belt model in the next week or so.

When Life Like re-release this model I will definately be buying more :D

Dan! is that really you? Welcome back [IMG] I am currently in the process of repainting and detailing my GP20, although I have fitted it with an Atlas mechanism, so it will run with other Atlas and kato locos.

Even tho it's got horribly oversized wheel flanges and it has a chipped step from where it was dropped, I'm quite fond of my Arnold S-2. I have a Hallmark brass SD40-2 that is right nice. I also am quite fond of almost anything Kato. I have 5-6 Kato engines, including one Mikado, and they all perform rather well, and look great. I'm still waiting for Kato to make more steamers... perhaps a C&O 2-6-6-2

My most Favorite Locomotive woulld have to my Burlington Northern Atlas/Kato GP30/39M. It was the first Kato built locomotive and still one of my best running. Over the years I modifyed it by removing the small middle radiator fan, moved the horn to the back, added few details and I did my first perment weathering job on it which came out quite nice. I also love the Kato BN SD40-2's and BNSF HI C44-9w's.

I would have to say that my favourite N scale loco is my Kato SD40-2 snoots. They are by far the best runners I have..

For me, it has to be my Kato F7 A-B-B-A set.

At 2 Volts from an MRC Tech II 2800 pack, the set creeps at about 2-3 mph, growling all the way! At 6 Volts it moves at 30-35 mph, and at 12 Volts it moves at about 70 mph. All of this while pulling a motley assortment of 50 freight cars up a 2% grade around an 18" curve.

This set is truly awesome! And of course they are painted in Boston & Maine maroon & gold

    Jon,
I think it is correct to say that the Kato GP38-2 & GP50 models were the first US prototype diesel released under the Kato banner in the U.S. Kato did make other models which were released by Atlas, such as the SD7/9, GP30 & GP35, but I believe they were released after their original GP38-2/GP50's.
