diesels A guess: Westbound just east of the depot. The cars in west bound yard.Although looking great notice the square look of the units as compared to second generation power. As I say this is just a guess about location. LEW
Nice photo of the 4000 and mate (4001?) - must be soon after delivery. Units are wearing the light gray scheme with dark gray lightning stripe band. These first run E-7As differed from later ones in several respects: --Horn installation is reversed (forward-facing horn is on the fireman's side) from the customary arrangement. --Small numberboards with integral classification lights. --Tall narrow grills behind cab ladder have "chicken-wire" - later ones were louvered. --Trucks were black - some were painted silver in the 1950s. How many have seen pictures of 4002-4003 in their original ALL-BLACK scheme? They wore only the white lightning stripe "edges" - no gray band. They also had slotted pilots that looked like they might have been scheduled for delivery to the Union Pacific. Both the paint and the pilots were changed soon after delivery.
Diesels? I like the steam that the NYC operated. Wasn't the 4000 the first E unit that NYCS had? :tb-confused:
In deference to "LEW", appears to me to be #312 at about "HUNKY LAKE" [ cars in backgrd look to be on a visible grade ] and those clean-out tracks were topsy turvy on the SOUTH side of the M.T.s. BN just might be behind the train.......just my perception. LARRY Baggerly
