    Tim,

The prices of the undecorated are already lower than finished models.

    1. Packed in the same boxes they come in now with the same nests
    2. Trucks and couplers are assembled but packed inside the car if possible..if not, next to the car.
    3. All cars are to be considered for this option.
    4. We are not planning on doing decals at the moment.

    Cheers

    Joe

i'm enjoying reading this thread. i celebrate undecs coming on the market. regarding boxes -- i need them. when the car is made i need a good way to store them. some people put them in larger trays and dump the plastic cases, but i need save storage/transportation for my choice cars. so i like the idea of cases and inserts that fit the cars.

decals -- we need them. a good thing some other boards have (that i don't see here) is an archive or folder of special things. i've looked at every Rio Grande decal made (i think) and can tell what works for what. Rio Grande modelers should have access to such a data base, so they can use available decals from other scales to their profit.

every road name should have such a data folder ... until Z decals are made available (if ever?!). Microscale already has it all, so we should be bugging them for decals.

i also agree that bulk packs of trucks are needed. i think it's a matter of time. MTL is increasing Z offerings and knows the potential. now they need to adjust their thinking to include not just the products they make, but the support they need to give to the modelers who buy them. in other words, parts, packs, etc are going to be an increasing need -- just as they have been provided for N scale, so they MUST (one day) be provided for Z scalers. it's the other component that goes with growing their product line.

thanks joe for letting us in on the discussion.

    Moin, moin,

    I think so, too !

    But another question :
Why not "Runner Packs" like in scale N ?

I like the idea from JoeS.

Just for reflection, unpainted cars will always be reserved for a nutshell of
    railroaders.
This is not bad, they (me) have also access to decals providers and so on,
means food for the hardcore community.

But there are some people outside, that have neither the skills and the connections.
So, a bundle of prepainted boxcars with a diversified decals offer,
also for borderline companies could be a nice complementary offer.

Another good use for undecorated cars is for projects like Club Cars, Trainboard Cars, etc. The organization or individual might elect to purchase a few dozen undec's and hire someone to print them decal sheets up, then they decorate them and offer them for sale. It brings extra variety, and helps keep the cost down. :D

    So......................................

Are we talking JUST ABOUT Undecorated Rollingstock or are we talking ABOUT Unassembled & Undecorated Rollingstock offered to the Public?????

If we are talking about the latter, then I would say the price for labor assembly, Actually the Lack Of, should be reflected in the price we will be asked to pay.

    Did I miss something here?

    Thanks for the reply!!

Tim, we went through this before. I dont think MTL is going to lower the price of the cars all that much. Its more of a labor saving item.
