I didn't think the D&SNG allowed K-37's to Silverton, yet this photo proves it, with #497 at Silverton...
Or was this before they realized that the K-37's were too big? Or what was the reason no K-37's serve on the Silverton line?

I have no idea why they are no longer used on the silverton. There's a narrow gauge website out there that might help. Can't think of it but there's a couple C&TS employees that are on there once in a while.

That is a great collection of NG steam photos. Sure wish I lived closer. With all the shots of D&S and C&T on the web this summer, I think I need to plan a trip to Colorado next year. Take in the 1744 operation as well. :tb-biggrin:

Thanks Jim, Pray for lots of snow and maybe they will run the rotary again! Heard alot of great things about the 1744 trips and the Royal Gorge trip was a hit with the girlfriend. Too bad I had to work though. But I've been thru the gorge running real trains. lol.

Weren't the K-37s retired because of difficulty maintaining their 1900s-vintage boilers?

Are no K-37's operating on Cumbres & Toltec? I thought some 490's were still operable.
