Maxi IV!! Yay! Just as soon as I said something, too. (I wonder if they'll have etched metal walkways.)
Ok.... need an era check on the MAXI IV.... will that work for 1994-1999? Looks like some good products comin! I hope its the latter phase -2 as well, then i'll get a ton of undecs for conrail (i'll also pick up a few BN, just because i like the scheme and don;t have any yet).
Daniel, I searched through Greenbrier's company history (chapter 17,18,19) and it reads that they started delivering Maxi IVs in 1999. So you are good to go, just don't weather them.
Still no mention on the Kato website. Usually, when someone lets the cat out of the bag, they update their site, but not so far...
hopefully they bring out a few cp rail units as well. some beaver units with noselights, working ditchlights and stuff like this.
Ive seen the poster at a local southern california hobby shop. The Poster shows the super chief , amtrak f40ph's Baggage cars, ( Stuff we know about) . The sd40-2 is there for BN and CN (ex IC) Only, no mention of an undecorated or any other roadnames..its the mid production sd40-2, the ones they made thousands off, and only 2 Road Names. This is the one sd40-2 most ppl wanted, so I guess we should be happy we are getting a re run at all. I just dont get why just 2 roadnames. Perhaps they are testing the market to see if its feasible to do more? So it will have the snoot style corrugated grills with the smaller nose with brakewheel. For me other possibilities come to mind, Mainly MKT and Frisco. Why they chose the maxi 4 is beyond me, if they do several sets in bnsf they should do well. I get the feeling kato willl make them out of plastic. I certainly hope not. Is it just me or is kato avoiding doing anything in southern pacific like its the plague? The Maxi 4 debuted in 2002. It is a good compliment to our Maxi 3, although the longer well will make radius an issue, unless they cheat. We'll have some good stuff to go with it in Cinncinatti. Stop by and heckle Craig and Steve. George Johnsen deLuxe innovations

They did the same with the Super Chief & F-7. Also the Superliners and F40PH.
Your refering to licencing? The 'Borg' thing. [/QB]</font>[/QUOTE]I think the reference is to the fact that no SP motive power has been released since the C44-9s. Unfortunately, SP seems to have suffered from slow sales in some peoples estimation. I can't see it being slow but that's what I was told. I was also told that ATSF pre-1972 paint was also a very slow seller for Kato. The other unasked question is how many were produced of various roads? If 8000 ATSF were produced vs 1000 of another road then sales will be slower.
here is a pic of my custom 7812 wearing one of the latest bn paint schemes. However, I need to paint those hand rails white on the ends! [ July 05, 2005, 10:55 PM: Message edited by: popularthinks ]
If they are the mid production ones I'll have to get a few to repaint into BN. You never know when Kato will run another group in the regular BN scheme.
If the SD40-2's were produced in different phases or configurations, are the proto BN Babyfaces and the IC units the same phase? I'm guessing that they are. But for Kato does this represent new tooling, or are the models identical to previously released SD40-2's?
One reason to do the Maxi 4 is that there are currently no models of a 53' well car in N scale. They will sell out, if they are of decent quality. Besides BSNF, there is TTX, PacerStacktrain, and AOK. I certainly hope they are not made of plastic, too, though what would really dissapoint me is plastic walkways instead of etched metal. I wonder if this means that Kato will be doing containers, too? Seems kind of silly to let Deluxe reep the benefits. Every other company that's offered a double stack (Deluxe, CC, Walthers) has offered containers to go with.
Let Deluxe reap the benefits???? Remember this is the company that launched the coal cars after Deluxe did them already, hurting Deluxe's future sales. If anything, they may owe Deluxe! I wonder, though, if Deluxe had a Maxi 4 in their future plans. If they didn't announce it, well, then nobody can blame Kato for going that way to give their SD70M's something really modern to pull... If Deluxe has plans, now would be the time to announce them so we can decide to wait for a metal set if Kato's is plastic. And hopefully this time Deluxe will make the formal announcement, with prices and part numbers, BEFORE the product is sold out at the plant!!
