I purchased one of the Athearn Work Trains from the C&O Historical Society. This is one of Athearn's John Deere licensed products. The set consisits of a crane car, a flatbed with a bulldozer, a gondola, and a tank car. A really nice set.
My question is this - what year (approximately) does a John Deere 650H bulldozer originate from? This bulldozer looks like a 21st century product, so would be a little out of character on a mid-1950's era layout.

That's what I kinda figured. Now the question is where do I find a bulldozer a little more at home in the 1950's?

    Hello ,

As a heavy equipment operator by trade, let me try to answer your question. The closest model that I could find is made by "woodland scenics". The model is around the 50's or early 60's.

A caterpillar cable controled blade, very nice looking model for the time. Be ready to put in a few hours for building and painting.

    Hope this helps you out.

    Patrick,
That's more what I need. I haven't built one of the Woodland Scenics kits for quite a few years.
I guess I was kind of surprised to see such a modern bulldozer offered as part of a C&O worktrain - probably would be better suited if the cars in the set were CSX...
