Thanks Jerry. I have compiled a lot of data to model my area, it may be of interest to some. I'm really enjoying the progress you have done here, keep it up!
Thanks Jim. I enjoy the data collecting myself, from researching to actually going to the places and getting photos. Even though I grew up in this area, you can always learn something new and find out things you never knew about an area. Alot of fun!
This is quickly becoming a Non-Modeler Friendly week at work! One of the highlights so far was hitting a large mill roll someone had placed on the track between some ties and as it rolled and twisted under the locomotives as I went over it it somehow managed to puncture both fuel tanks on my consist and I dumped about 1500 gallons of fuel out. Talk about paperwork and EPA clean-up! Another long day without being able to finish the last couple feet of gluing track!!!
Sabotage? I hope they catch whoever did that. Someone needs to spend some serious jail time and pay the costs of cleanup, etc.
No derailment or injuries. We didnt even know we had done it. We were going down the tracks and the locomotives shut down. I tried to restart them and they wouldnt prime. The conductor looked at the fuel gauge and said we were out of fuel. I said "Thats impossible......we left with 1100 gallons in each engine and its a 200-300 gallon round trip!" I started to climb down and then the strong smell of diesel hit me. It was dark, so I told him to give me his light. I looked under the locomotives, and one was still dripping pretty good. Checked the the other, hole..... We had gone about 3 miles, and over three bridges before they shut down based on where they found the tie damage and the roller. One of the bridges had an open deck too.
Well I'm definitely glad nobody got hurt. I hate when jerks vandalize or do stuff like this (sure seems very unlikely to be an accident).
Now the haz mat boys and girls will be out digging up the right of way to remove the hazardous waste. Light a match. Kidding of course. So, how's the layout coming along. No pressure...but I want to see some pictures...NOW! Kidding of course. I have no right to tell you to post pictures. Just an impolite request to see more of your layout. Needing a Jerry's Railroad Fix.
Should get some new stuff this weekend Rick. (Maybe tonight if the Grandson gives me some free time! LOL)
Very poor lighting, but here is the first train to run on the new section. Tomorrow will be adding the risers and a little more additions in the refinery. Then will work on finishing the corner scenery. Will try and get a better video tomorrow in the daylight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYQpBn5cYIc
I like your smooth trackwork and broad curves, gonna be very realistic. Though I have a question...What part of your layout construction requires an 18" Pipe Wrench? :tb-wink:
LOL....that was actually something I grabbed as a weight to hold the track down while the liquid nail dried.
Ran my Key Imports 4-10-2 over the new loop this morning, and it did really good! This was the one locomotive I had concerns with because of its large ridgid wheelbase. Couple places it slowed slightly at lower speeds, but nothing bad for a picky brass locomotive.
