I’ve been slowly but diligently working on my first module since July 2006. Just have to finish off the rest of the scenery, the pond and add figures. Can you spot the fish in the pond? Enjoy, John
Henrik, The barn is from MPP and the factory I bought on ebay from a guy who scratch builds Z scale buildings. I have not seen any more sold by him on ebay. His building has incredible detail. Equal to Lionel's. I modified it by adding brick to the small side building off the main building and a smoke-stack from Luetke-Modellbahn. John
Nice work John. Its nice see where the tower and the depot is going. Its like watching the second episode of a movie.
So you have been holding out from us for almost a year now John. That's not nice off you. Well at lest it looks like we have been waiting for something good. Keep us posted John.
John, very nice! Where did you get z-scale fish???? What was your opinion on the MPP Barn kit? I built one of their house kits, and found it a bit frustrating compared to other kits I've done (mostly in N-Scale). Got any pictures of that section of the module?
alleydude, MPP barn was easy to assemble because the parts are simple, the directions are not. I'll take some photos of that part of the module this week and post them. That section of the module is very loosely based on Bown Brothers Evaporated Fruit Company which existed in East Rochester (Despatch) in the 1880s-1890s. I still have to populate it with Z scale apple trees and sunflowers (really N scale sunflowers from Busch part # 8103) but they work. The fish were created using the techniques described by Gerry Leone in his article "Wetlands Detailing" in the April 07 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman but instead of using .040" solder to create the fish I used .022" solder since I was creating fish in Z scale and he was creating them in HO. I also used his fallen tree method in my pond. Water is brown and murky like real ponds cause I glued finely shifted dirt to the entire pond, and then painted the banks of the pond with Polly S Dirt color paint. Once that was dried I then filled the pond 3/4 of the way with Noch brown Water-Drops part # 60856. The brown Water-Drops dry clear and hard with a very realistic tint of murky/clear brown. Once the brown Water-Drops dried then I poured a layer of Woodland Scenics Realistic Water part # C1211 over the top of them to complete the water. Dock was scratch-built. Can you spot the wagon wheel in pond near the fish? I have lily pads, cattails, and pond scum ready to go; I just have to add them to the pond when I have time (see Lily Pads, Cattails, and Pond Scum in the Aug 02 issue of Model Railroader Magazine also by Gerry Leone for those techniques). John
John that is a very nice looking module! That ballast and the trackwork look especially well done. All you need now is some trains on it!
Several people asked me about the farm scene on the left section of my module so I am posting some close up photos of that section. That section of the module is very loosely based on Bown Brothers Evaporated Fruit Company which existed in East Rochester (Despatch) in the 1880s-1890s. I still have to populate it with Z scale apple trees and sunflowers (really N scale sunflowers from Busch part # 8103 but they work). Enjoy! John
Very Nice!!! Very Nice Work John!!! Mucho Kudo's!!!!! Waiting patiently for completion photos!!!! Great detail!!! Are these laZer cut buildings? How about the brick work? paper or laser? Keep up the progress!!! Hobo Tim
Nice buildings and details so far. Did you use a standard for the tracks? ZMOD.no or Jürger system or something else?
