Our shop still has a few things left, but the "well" is drying up pretty fast. The parts I'm going to miss most are the early and late pyle headlights and various SP light clusters. What parts will you miss? Donnell M. Wells
When you model the SP, Sunrise filled all the gaps! I'll miss just about everything also, especially though, the smooth nose replacement for the nose emergency light. I guess anyway, the ditch lights are still being made. Thats good — I'll need them. They were like detail central for me, hate to see them go!
Hi, I am jumping on the bandwagon. Is Sunrise stopping its detail activity? Is that official ? Any news regarding a take over by some other company?
Sunrise discontinued their cast metal parts only. They will continue to produce the etched metal parts and their line of signals. No news of any other company taking over the cast metal parts.
I still have a small supply of Sunrise cast parts that will fill my needs for the next few months. I had a feeling this would happen when certain dealers had trouble getting their inventory refilled in the past year. BLMA has taken quite a bit of business away from Sunrise. Stay cool and run steam....
I'll miss the part I need, when I need it and eventually that will be 75%. Hopefully someone will fill the gap.
From their website. http://sunrisenterprises.com/ Effective Febuary 5th, 2007 I have added back to the N Scale page Ditch lights and a few beacons. Effective January 1st, 2007 we have stopped production of our white metal parts, we have been deliberating this for nearly a year with our distributors and we feel now is the time. We are unsure at this time if we will make them available again. Going strong for 15 years I want to take time to model again, work with certain organizations to make New products available such as the Santa Fe Modelers Organization. Its been fun and hard work to produce products for the Model Railroad Market and I have no plans to leave it, working alone dosen't give much time do modeling of your own, at age 53 today now is the time to begin to enjoy it again. We will maintain our Signal line and add to this line by bringing back our three light GN style as well as New Semaphores that I've been working of for sometime. To all that support us we Thank you and we hope 2007 will be a Great year for you and your family.
I'm a SP modeler, So there are quite a few parts that will be missed from them! Also the firecracker antennas and all the parts that you don't know you need until they are needed. :-( Looks like Craig at BLMA will have some new stuff to think about!
Someone really needs to buy the molds for these products and have them available on an as-needed bassis. I need dozens of electrical boxes for my CR engines. The plows, bells, ditchlights and winterization hatches were must-haves as well.
I would have thought this was a golden opportunity for BLMA (Craig) to pick up the molds etc however I dont think Craig is really setup for this line of detail parts. Maybe Craig will make comment?
Or Peter Harris... cast pewter, you know... Back to Donnell's original question... I'd miss the beacons (though now re-available), the nose mounted pyle gyralites and some of the plows. And some of the headlights like the WP barrels.
Sunrise was great I have used Dans Parts for many years and he always gave me great sevice. I guess that part of my note should be why I contacted him in the first place was that my dealers and hobby shops would take months to get me my parts for custom painting so I just became a dealer and sold them to all my friends and a shows worked out great . BLMA models is now my number one and Craig is already making plows and some resin items so I think he will start with some other items. Dan you will be missed and I think the SP modelers are going to really be short for a bit . Your a great guy enjoy life . You CN guys I have lots of extra spark arrestors that Dan Made for me. CN GPs and SW1200 style Dave Yellowknife
Sunrise was a great company. I think the MU hoses and cables will be missed, but they had such a wide array of parts that it made detailing a real challening process because you never knew where to stop. Craig was nice enough to drop me a line when I asked him about picking up where Sunrise left off, and he indicated that he was looking at expanding his line, but couldn't say for sure what he was going to do next. Craig is great in my book and I hope he can expand.
I'll miss them once my supply of plow's, brakecylinders, rerailers and becons run-out. ...But I have more than enough parts to complete the 30 odd loco's in my WM fleet which is all I need. If I start rotating locos out as new and improved items make their way onto the roster...only then I will miss Sunrise. But most likely someone else will fill the void, for the above mentioned items. All of 'em D-man, all of 'em! Sunrise did a lot of parts I found indispensible (and FWIW, I model HO). You don't really appreciate something until they're gone...
Thanks for the invite - but we have only just going on the intermodal and flatcars! SP is where I model personally, but the Sunrise lines are not where we are heading, I regret to say. We want to look at more whole freight car kits rather than detailing parts. Lets see how the market pans out. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits
