Here is car moving through town in the early part of the 20th century. Could be a trolley, more like an interurban. This is in the middle of the layout. And yes, it runs.

Wow! Nicely done! Are you going to try and put wires up? :)

Where did you find it or how did you kitbash it?

It looks great. I am wondering if this is an off-the-shelf thing you happened to find somewhere or if you kitbashed it.

We really need more N scale traction...trolleys, interurbans, light rail, subway.

Looks like a standard Bachmann Brill trolley. They go for around $16.+ They come complete with the notorius Bachmann nylon gears. I have heard some people claim that by turning down the flanges they have got this thing to negotiate 6 inch radius curves. I think the prototybe could do 35-40 foot radius [about 2.5-3 inch curves in N scale].

Looks great! More period urban scenes could use a trolley!

The trolley is a Model Power mechanism repowered with LifeLike motor and the shell is the Bachmann trolley.Im debating on the wire. The track is peco flex track with a thick craft board cut to fit on each side of the track with spackling compound to fill in between the rails and outside the rails.I took some black paint and thinned it with water to paint the streets. The blacker colors along the rail is stuff you use to blacken siderods anf trip pins, the conductive stuff. You can see a few more pictures at my railimages site. Search for oldrk in railimages.

Here's a Western Railcraft Interurban kit that I got over 30 years ago. It's brass and wood - I guess I should get started on it...

Has anyone ever seen one of these kits built up? By built up I mean painted and powered. lv4142003

I have searched and have never found one of the Western Railcraft interurban kits reviewed, or built. I really have no idea what the best frame/motor/trucks to use - part of the reason it's never been built. I originally intended to model the Toledo and Chicago interurban as would have run in northeast Indiana in the early 1900's.

I used the Model Power mech because it was only two axles. It can really turn short as you can see in the picture.

Both Kato and Green Max and maybe tomix too make powered chassis that are essentially one powered truck and one unpowered with a frame and motor. They can be lengthened or shortened to suit your needs. The side frames are probably Japanese prototype but can probably be modified to represent North American prototype. Since these are self proppelled and usually are not coupled to any other cars the one powered truck is usually sufficient.
