Took a ride on the A&M Monday, March 5th. I posted pics online and thought you might enjoy seeing them. The quality and size was reduced and it is dificult to get good pictures while on the train, but I tried :D

    Hope you like them :)

Lucky fellow! What was the reason for the train? It's a bit early in the year for excursions.

Looks like they need to do some ballast cleaning. What is the location of that depot in distance at left?

I love seeing good old heavyweight passenger cars, so nicely kept up.

The conductor said if there is a group of 50 or more, then anyone can charter an excursion with them. The group that chartered the train was just going from Van Buren to Winslow and back. Since the train had to go from Springdale to Van Buren for that charter, they offered a special. It was buy one-get one free :D and it turns out that only 6 adults and 2 children were on the train from Springdale to Van Buren....however, it was on a Monday and it left at 6am. That may have kept some from riding.

Is this the depot you're asking about? (For some reason trainboard isn't letting me just post the image...keeps just showing as a link):

If so, that is the depot at Van Buren.

I think they are doing some server maintenance. Maybe I should go ahead and post them to RailImages...was just trying avoid that since there were so many pics.

Oh no Grasshopper, there is no such thing as too many pics :D :D

I'm able to post 10 pics at a time on RI, and although it takes time, you can put this whole collection in an an album entitled "A&M Excursion" with captions.

Tha Frisco depot in Van Buren was recently renovated, and is one sharp-looking structure. Looks like you got 2 of the 3 trestles between Schaberg and Winslow tunnel. That area is awesome in the fall.

Where did you shoot that MP crummy at? Looks like around Fayettteville, as well as some of the industrial trackage.

And during this trip, did you visit the gift shop at Springdale?

Those photos make this Frisco fan very happy (used to be part of the Central Division main between Monett, MO and Paris, TX), and is getting me in a mood to do some Alco-chasing soon as I get back up to Ft. Smith.

I'm just lazy :p It's easier to just drag them to an html file.

Frisco: The third trestle is video :D I'll put there too :)

I'm really thinking of modelling the A&M...are there Alco's out there on the market?

A few years ago, Model Railroader had a series of articles. They built the A&M in N scale. Might be worth checking?

Thanks for the tip, Boxcab! I'm working in n-scale. I wouldn't have room for an accurate model of the whole thing, but it'd be nice on my double oval. I can put in trestles and a tunnel :)

Meanwhile in HO scale, Atlas has released the RS1 and RS32, and is coming out with the C420. The latter will be offered in A&M.

I cannot recall exactly when that series started. Most, if not all, were done in 1999. MR may have those back issues. If not, try Railpub.

How do you make a new folder/album for the images to go into? I didn't see an option for that at the upload page.

I uploaded the images to railimages. Not sure how to compress a movie I have which was filmed while going across trestle 1.

Hope you enjoy...I couldn't figure out how to make a folder for them :)

If you're still wanting to do the A&M in N scale, Dave's Hobbies & Collectibles in downtown Van Buren has two Model Power N scale C420s on the shelf. Personally, I'd get a couple of Atlas U25Bs, store the shells, and use the chassis under the C420 shells (this is what the author of the A&M layout did for his power). Also has an awesome DVD of recent A&M action.

Also, whilst roaming around VB I spotted the local A&M power running cars to & from the Ft. Smith yard- it included an ex-BC Rail Alco still in its old colors. Sorry, didn't have the camera with me, otherwise I'd gotten shots.

Dave's is a great store! Has everything from HAM radio equipment to Star Trek stuff. I was in there the week before the train trip and didn't recall seeing the Alcos.
