This turned out to be a busier than expected weekend. With the nice weather on Saturday we started the spring yard clean-up. My son had baseball try-outs later in the afternoon. On Sunday my daughter’s basketball team won and my son’s team lost. Modeling wise the weekend was a bust. I did do some minor clean-up of the layout in the area I have been working anticipating running trains but that never materialized.
I actually started on a big structure kit. Not done anything except work on locos and rolling stock or just playing trains for about a year, so this is a big step for me. Just got to try and keep the momentum up.
With my daughter Amy, her husband Jack and Jenna and Jillian (two J's of the JJJ&E) visiting us for awhile. I didn't get too much accomplished. I did work on the rock formations and also had some operating sessions of the JJJ&E. Stay cool and run steam....
EEK!, I don't recall this topic being so short before. Spring must be in the air taking away from Modeling time.
Most of the weekend was spent preparing for Sunday's operating session: cleaning track; straightening out warped tracks caused (I suspect) by continued shrinking of my homasote from the drier and cooler winter we've been having; cleaning loco wheels, setting up trains for the run session. Spent some time with one of the operators discussing possible adjustments in the yard trackage on his layout. Didn't get as much done on the Spring Layout Party project as I'd hoped.
Uncovered my layout, plugged in the power and then cleaned the first section of track. Soldered a loose joiner and played with my trains, something I have not been able to do for several months.
Finished Phase 1 of the bench work. First layer of foam glued down, second layer of foam cut and fitted in place. Just trying now to determine if I want to use liquid nails or low temp hot glue for the second layer of foam. Getting ready to lay some track out, the balance of my track order should be in later this week.
I did not get any modeling done but Idid get a undecorated Challenger from Featherriver trains in the mail. I also got some brushs to start work on building some buildings. Alan
Did get more more done than I figured. Got some time on the layout between grankids coming and going, even ran some trains while they were here. Also got some time this morning to work on the 2'nd main line. inch
Not much. We had family over for most of the weekend, as we were the staging point for our daughter's move to New York. The caravan is in Tennessee tonight, wisely choosing the southern route due to bad weather further north. Jeanne, daughter and grandaughter leave tomorow morning by airplane. I did get a few joints in the new small coastal freighter smoothed out, and the fourth of seven recipe boxes finished; only three more to go. I'll be a bachelor for the next 2.5 weeks, so I should get some stuff done.
I finally got my bridge painted and somewhat weathered. Not sure I'm totally done weathering it yet, but it's a real good start. I also found out that I've got to get a better airbrush.
TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!! Finally we have a photograph and nice work to boot!!!!!!!
Well Darren, I would have posted the pic below earlier, but I didn't have my card reader up and running till last night. Heres some of the rock work I was working on over the weekend.
A few weeks ago when my "stash cash" was low I just happened across an airbrush made by Central Pneumatic at the local Harbor Freight store. It was $5, so I went ahead and purchased it. But the old saying that you get what you pay for is almost always correct. I had to hold the air source hose into the airbrush the whole time I was painting because it kept slipping out, it was constantly getting clogged too, other than that I guess it did a decent job though. My stash is now back up there so it's time to purchase a new brush. I'm leaning towards the Aztec's because they are supposed to be less prone to clogging when using acrylics. I guess they have special acrylic nozzles? My second choice is the Paache H and then the Badger series. I'm going with single action for right now.
