Named after the focal point in my favorite HBO series Deadwood, I've called the Idaho Hotel from Bar Mills the Gem Saloon. I found this kit hiding at my local hobby shop, with a price tag of $79.00. The shopkeeper was nice enough to knock $10 off that price, and I have to say that for $69, even $79, this kit is very much worth the money. It is a highly detailed laser cut wood kit, that though not easy to build, it wasn't overly difficult either. It has now become my pride and joy, and will be one of the focal points of my N-Scale layout once I start working on that again.
Oh, and on a side note, that roof did not come with the kit, I created on my computer it and printed it with my ink-jet. :zip:
I built this kit many years ago and it's one of the prominent buildings. on the JJJ&E. It's main outstanding feature is the corrugated metal roof. Stay cool and run steam......
I couldn't get the metal roof to work for me, which is why I cheated. I couldn't bring myself to weather it either. You've don't a magnificent job of making it look really old. Maybe the next one I will take the plunge and dirty something up in that way. Thanks for sharing your great pictures.
Weathering chalks and washes make the weathering of any lasercut building kit or any building kit really easy. Stay cool and run steam....
Now for a bit of history about this kit by Bar Mills. When it was first released, it was expensive for it's time ($79.95) and only 250 kits were released by Bar Mills for sale. It was truly a "limited run". You were lucky to find one at your LHS. Stay cool and run steam.....
People can enjoy looking at the completed building. When you place it on your layout, take some photo's of the building, so other's might enjoy the way it looks on a layout. I'm sure there are a few of these kits still hidden on the shelves of LHS. Stay cool and run steam.....
I like this kit as well I got one when they were released. I would have liked to have had another one, but as it has been said they where limited.
