I have heard rumor that these may be getting scraped out at Roanoke. As I heard that all of them on the roster, are being sent up there. Or are they being sent up there to work in the coal fields. Anyone with info please chime in here as I would like more info.

There is a batch of C39-8s that went to Roanoke and then onto the Pokey for coal service for an upswing in traffic. Expect to see them stored again in a few months once more new power from GE and EMD comes on line.

So what is the forecast for new power? More ES40DC's and SD70M-2's?

I've seen several C39's kicking around NY lately on some pretty stout tonnage trains. If they're going for scrap or storage, NS is doing a fine job of wringing the last drop of blood out of the old monsters before they go.

Probably thinking of the C39-8Es that were round up and stored along with the C39-8s at Roanoke, Chatonooga, and elsewhere, then reactivated as well.

NS has recieved all of it's EMD SD70M-2s as of May of 2006... they are currently recieving 48 more GE ES40DCs and they have allocated for 53 more six-axle high adhesion units in 2007.

Man, I remember when the Dash 8's were brand new. The standard cab with the rounded cab roofs made them nice looking beast. It seems hard to believe that they would be old enough to be scrapped. On the other hand, maybe I'm just older than I think I am???? :D :D :D

I know the feeling. Even though they ended production shortly after I was born, I still don't think of the whole Dash 2 line as old. I have trouble even thinking of pre-Dash-2 SD40s as old.

Someone on one of my railfan lists reported that the SD9M's have been pulled from service and are being rounded up for retirement.

Man I hate to see the SD7/9's gone. They have been a somewhat common site in Atalanta for some time. Oh well I guess that is the way it is. Wonder where they will go?
