Anyone making plans for railfanning New Years weekend? I'm heading to the in-laws in the Kansas City area. I'm hoping with good weather I'll be able to head out to the ATSF. I'll begin in Henrietta MO and maybe head east to Hardin and see what's out that way. Anyone have any advice for good spots in this area? I know Henrietta is!! MERRY CHRISTMAS & Happy New Year!!!!
Not really for the weekend, we do our family Christmas the Sunday after. Do plan on some this week around Effingham, IL., got a doctors appointment there next week inch
Maybe Wednesday in Ashland VA and the Saturday in the Bayview area of Baltimore. Also gives me an excuse to visit the hobby store.
I am going to Portland, Oregon for a week over the holiday. Although I'm headed out to the coast at Astoria for a weekend of debauchery and mayhem I do plan to shoot plenty of trains the rest of the week. Let's see, 1) I'm riding Amtrak's Empire Builder cross-country; 2) shooting Portland & Western, East Portland Traction, and TriMet around the city; 3) taking Amtrak Cascades to Seattle for a day; and 4) presenting at a slide show of Portland railfans.
Since I've only one day to do so, I'm gonna chase the PNWR around Albany, Salem and north to Portland, via Woodburn and Liberal (roundabout route, yes, but there are shortlines to chase down & shoot). I'm also gonna check out a spot I was told about along the Columbia River that is supposed to be a good railfan spot.
This has nothing to do with KC or New years but saturday(CHRISTMAS WEEKEND) around the Louisville,KY area rail traffic was BUSY it was a good weekend to go railfanning which i hope this weekend it will be BUSY
