Okay, how does everyone represent the stripes on highways/roads? Im refering to the white/yellow lines ddown the sides and broken white lines sepereating the lanes.

    I used microscale decal stripes.

I've used white and yellow colored pencils.

I started out using 1/64" automotive pinstriping, which makes really nice crisp lines, when they stay stuck, which is only about half the time.
What I'm saying is; don't try this at home, that way lies madness.

I just got a fine point white gel pen off the internet and I'm gonna try that next. (When I'd ask for one at the local crafts stores I'd just get blank looks.)

I was seriously considering automotive pen stripping. The road to madness is short for me so I had better not start down it....

I used graphic artist chart tape. It works really well. Mine has been down for about 2 years with no lifting.

Im sure the answer to this question is obvious and I will exclaim "Doh!"; but where do I get "graphic artist chart tape"?

A well stocked office supply store MAY have it. I found mine in an artist's supply store a couple years back. They were able to order some as well since I wanted yellow and white. I recommend the matte finish, and it has held up well for the most part - one or two spots have lifted a bit, but I could easily glue them down.

The brand name is Chartpak, you could google "chartpak chart tape" as I did and find that Amazon.com has some available.

Art Supply Stores carry chart pack tape, but I think its too shiny to look good. Woodland Scenics makes some dry transfers with white and yellow lines that I think look better. Draw a light pencil line where you want the centerline, place the dry transfer sheet appropriately and burnish it on with their tool, or similar blunt end instrument. Then, spray with dull coat. Mine have lasted ten years witout damage.

I have seen some articles advocate masking off a line like you would for painting a multi color diesel scheme which I would think would look even better. The masking would have to be perfect to be believable, however and I don't have the patience.

I painted my road white, then masked the sholder lines, then painted yellow, masked the center lines then painted the roadway gray.

I have tried strips, masking off and spraying, etc. What turned out best for me, especially on layout already scenicked and structurated, etc. was simple only white and yellow colored pencils, as Metro Red Line said.
