Bob that looks stunning. Do you have a tutorial on how you do this?

Do you run something like sculptamold even with the Unitrack then balast?

    Thanks

    Bruce:

You can see a tutorial on weathering and ballasting Unitrack on my Blog in the TB forum.

I don't use scuptamold. I use plastercloth for a covering over the foam. Then I have a very fine flour like ballast that is a nice ground cover. Then I use some very fine ground foam and then I use Color Canyon Materials very fine natural rock ballast for the roadbed on the Unitrack.

I remember when I started this thread a while back: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=61871&highlight=ballasting+unitrack It was a simple experiment on my part that only took me a total of ten minutes, but you and ATSF just took the ball and ran with it. you've spent time working out the details and really proven that unitrack does look as good as other track if you know how to detail it just right. All I can say is you have an awesome layout and I always enjoy the pics you post.

I think pictures like this one here would leave most wondering what brand of track that is. You should consider writing an article for a model train magazine. Maybe tag team it with ATSF. Although we now take it for granted that unitrack SHOULD be ballasted, there are many people in the world who could learn tons from our THINK TANK on trainboard.
