I thought I'd throw this one out there since I've read about in a RR magazine somewhere.
How many of you when building a layout include some sort of structure or business like the one you work in?
I am in law enforcement and work in corrections. Since I have a space of 30 feet by 15 feet to work with, I wanted to include a prison on my layout. I was just wondering how many of you include your careers on your layouts.

I plan to include a Zenith electonics plant on my railroad which kinda fits this bill.

The location for it will be roughly analagous to the location of an Intel Fab plant in Oregon and I used to work for Intel. The design will be influenced by the former 3Com/USR offices and plant in Chicago where I also used to work.

My dad worked for Zenith for 50 years. In my world, they buy LG electronics, not the other way around.

My new layout is built around roundhouse operations, loosely similar to one I worked at when young, 33 stalls.

I'm a P/O and a Air Guardsman. For the cop job, I'll probably just add a police car here or there. I have no space to model an ANG base so.....

Kewl. The only roundhouse I was ever in was the one up here at the Steamtown train museum. It is quite interesting. It doesn't have as many stalls as your's does though.

Could put a police station on it. Then again it depends on the room you said you have. The prison will be completely scratch built since there are no kits and I'm going to build loosely based off one of the prisons up here in my area.

I could put Joliet State Penn from Illinois. Then when I run the Harry Potter Hogworts express I got for Christmas, it could double as the castle. ;)

Retired copper here too. Also a PRR fan. My RR is not at a point where I am adding buildings yet, but I intend to have a police station in town as well as a billboard with my picture asking to be reelected Police Chief.

IIRC Sing Sing prison in NY is squeezed in between the railroad and the Hudson river, so there is at least a prototype for putting one right next to your tracks :)

I am going to attempt to build the prison but of course it's all going to have to be scratchbuilt. I was flipping the Walther's catalog and I only saw maybe one or two building shells that I could use as a main building for the prison. It's going to take some planning and lots of scratchbuilding to make it happen.
