"Support your Local Hobby Shop!" If it's there, it can be impulse bought and lead to higher circulation for the mag. If you're there buying it, you might be incented to buy something else, leading to higher survival chances for the LHS. Stocking magazines is a low-margin royal pain from what I've heard from LHS proprietors, so there needs to be enough of an incentive to keep that shelf space available for the magazines.
I did not mail in my renewal when it showed 2 months ago, but now I got another green renewal envelope, and I will wait till I see a new issue before I renew. They still owe me 2 issues, and it has been a few months since I seen a new N Scale issue.
Got my copy yesterday. Quite an improvement over prior issues. Great article on installing decoders on various locos. Keep up the good work. Ken
Support Your Hobby Shop. Why not!! I'm a firm believer in supporting your local hobby shop. However, (and you knew that was coming) my local hobby shop is over 70+ miles away. It's not worth the $30.00+ dollars it cost me to make the trip. Gas, food, treats never mind the inherit cost of keeping a car running...insurance, maintenance, tire replacement and etc. So, I depend a lot on subscriptions and mail order. I've played my violin in soulful strut long enough. Good to see a N Scale, wig wag publication supporting...local hobby shops.
I too am and will remain a subscriber to N-Scale Magazine AND NSR as there is always something of interest in both! In the cover letter Pamela Clapp sent with the Nov/Dec issue, she stated they will be extending everyones subscription by 1 month due to no printing of the Sept/Oct issue! I find it much easier having a subscription, because I've gone to the LHS meaning to pick up an issue while there and don't remember till half way home!*!(good thing theres an internet as the closest hobby shop is 50 miles) I wish the best to the "new" N-Scale Magazine AND NSR Magazine!
I think distribution may be easier if most copies are sent to a LHS or a good dealer. I guess the press run for each is about 10,000? MR peaked out at 200,000. I'm not sure what the cost to send them from the printer is? I'd guess the best rate would be to send bundles to the dealer. I just wish there were more dealers! For some cities, perhaps a good bookseller should also carry modeling & Nscale mags. I'd also like to se a wider distribution of MR books & other items. THat would be a way to keep something like the Nscale Primer current & in stock for all the new Nscalers.
new web site for N scale mag I e-mailed Pam with that question and she respoonded (extremely quickly) that a new website is in the works and should be there soon.
I agree Glenn. If you have ever visited the "Hobby" section of major book retailers you will find virtually nothing about model railroading.
Yea! Thanks for your intro to the group Pam. I've been dissappointed for the past year w/ Hundman but still support the mag. I really can't wait to see the first issue and re-subsribe at the end of this month. Thanks and good luck!
I believe circulation is about 10,000. Distribution of that kind of number is inefficient at best. I've managed corporate magazines at about 20,000 circulation, and distribution was a huge hassle. Only when you get up to much higher numbers does it get more relatively more efficient.
Has anyone else had a copy of this arrive? I had a subscription, but have not had the new issue arrive yet.
Your not alone,I went to a model RR show today and stopped at my LHS since it is in the same area,I didn't want to make a special trip to aquire N scale & NSR They only had NSR no sign of N scale Mag. So much for killing two birds with one stone!! Maybe with Pete N. and Daniel L. articles the demand was outrageous and sold out and we have to wait for the reprinted copy????
