Holy macaroni! Wow, that's an impressive fleet!!!!!!! Are you planning on building the 48-stall roundhouse, the steam backshop, and all the other stuff? Pentrex's Last of the Giants, Vol 2, the Cheyenne Shops is an invaluable resource for this build. (of course, I have a copy!)
Full 340 degree round house but it will only be 38 stalls (modified walters round house) Back shops behind the roundhouse. I have had to turn the roundhouse and coal bulker to face towards the Cheyenne Station but it should readily capture the look of Cheyenne. I have watched the Big Boy #2 vidio atleast 10 times recently. Thanks
I agree with the others. Nice set of steam power!!! I will mention another great resource when it comes to laying out Cheyenne. I think it was the most recent issue of "The Stramliner" put out by the UP Histerical Society has an article on Cheyenne. Shows the placement of allthe tracks and buildings.
Holy Smokes! And i thought i loved big steam! Where did you find all the Northerns? Congratulations on the collection and keep us up to date on the build! Dave
You're going to keep a coal mine running all on your own. Some fleet! Glad you couldn't resist the shot.
Yes the FEF's are hard to come by. The grey with silver strip was Norm Wright's which I bought from his estate, I hope to give it as good of a home! BTW, all of the FEF's are now "decodered", they do run very nice. The cheyenne yard is approx 15' long and up to 63" wide. Some variations of the yard were made. Its now day 16 since the layout began "Cheyenne to Ogden". More pics to come! P.S. if any one has an FEF they might sell please contact me, I'am covering a lot of rails!
FEF's Superturbine, Just looked through the brass selection at The Train Shop in Santa Clara CA, they have two UP FEF's up for sale. The PH # is 408-296-1050. They may sell over the phone and ship, I'm not sure though.
I'm nearly speachless, thank you for sharing with us all ST that sure is one fleet to be proud of.Please keep the progress pic's coming. I'll go & pick my jaw up off the floor now..........
WOW, now thats one of the best steamer shots i've seen ! Whats the rest of the layout looking like ? I love my first generation diesels but those steamers rule. Ernie
If you can find a copy of "Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne" by Robert Darwin it would prove to be an invaluable source of info.
Another Cheyenne Here is another model of Cheyenne. The roundhouse was starting out with Con-Cor/Heljan six stall roundhouses to be modified to look more like the Cheyenne roundhouse. The turntable is by Diamond Scale. A scratch built Back Shop was also under construction Sadly, this layout is no more. A move necessitated its' departure. Fortunately, I was the last person to operate on the monster of a fine layout.
Bought one!!! Thanks SP steam. I also found two more at "Chans in San Francisco. They were all series 128 which is an improved model. The two I found at Chans were excursion units 8444. They are considered to be the most valuable FEF's
