I thought id start a topic on challengers. FYI i recently come across a web site the has ALCo,baldwin drawings/ In my research of there site noticed they have the ALCo drawings of 2 different challengers.I went thru the list ordered thier C001 ALCo Class 4-6-6-4 Challenger and recived a incredable drawing of A D&H Challenger(a copy of alcos orignal erecting drawing).THe drawing has tons of dimention, details, etc. In the bottom corner (cant see it on there site) it says Del & hudson. These drawings could pose great modelin help, they were a little pricey at 74.00+s/h.I am looking into seeing if the have any other drawings of this loco. They are Giesler Engineering in PA

Damn!! That is a great find Dan!!!

Guess I'll have to spend some money!

Couple of years back a BLHS member was looking for Challenger drawings. I sent him Photocopies of the Challenger drawings in Carl Munck's book. He was trying to convince Athearn to make D & H Challengers but was not successfull.

These drawings would have been the way to go.

Thank you Geoff ,the drawings will come in handy(also cool for layout room). I take you found there web site ok?At my work theres a plotter so i was able to run off a copy of my copy so not gonna handle the 1 i paid for.I plan to kitbash the bowser model like Dave4664 did, then down the road i mite throw my hand at scratch building the challenger in brass.I have seen the drawings of carls book, they are good but these are great.

    Dans Challenger cab

Wow!......looking great so far Dan! My hats off to you....you are tackleing a real modeling "challenge". I knew how difficult it would be to scratch build a proper cab for my unit....so I compromised and used a similar cab off of an old AHM steamer. Your model is going to be a "blockbuster" with that great cab!

Hey Dave ,I rembered that you said about the AMH cab.I hope this comes out,i mean the brass has so much excess solder, scratchs from fileing, not sure this will look flat/smooth,i guees we will see when it has primer on it.I once built a cab for the Rivy challenger, but used fill n sand prime, apperently was not compatable with the plastic ended up melting lol. Since last nite iv added the cal-scale cab roof hathes and started adding window frames,I also went back to drawing board and drew up the boiler backhead(refered to a pic and the Key model)

Hey all,i think this model is gonna go in a box forr a while,i primed the cab this morning ,to many flaws show and my frustration has surfaced. Rite now i think id bite the bullet(deal with the wife after) and buy 1 or those brass. I just wish 1 of the big companys(athearn, broadway ltd,Precision craft, etc) would do this model.I guess they only do the big roads(UP,BNSF,etc)too much frustration ,sorry
