So, I recently found out what was better than a D&H PA pulling freight on my layout was!

    2 PA's pulling freight together.

Having recently aquired Proto #19 to go with Proto #17, I finally got them both on the track together.

Such a sweet sight to see.

I'm going to have to dig out my D&H passenger cars & get pics of the PA's in their natural function.

I agree. They sure do look good.I`ve been thrilled with all of the recent D&H models turned out by manufactures.I like to run my "sharks" in freight service too.Saw that a number of times, back
    in the day....

I treated myself to a pair of Kato PAs last year and confess that when no one was looking to running them with a set of Amtrak Superliners.

I also tried a pair of E-R Models Sharks in helper service, which were not too reliable and were difficult to match in speed and trottle response with the Kato & Atlas locos at the head end..Must persevere!

Well, nothing I have or am aware of has it.

I just want to see and hear them in their original D&H environment so I can compare what I remember to how they really sounded and looked. Super 8 w/sound, 16mm original, etc. Everthing I've seen out there has no sound or dubbed-in sound. I want original footage with original sound. Perhaps TV news footage.

If you know of anything, great!

    No luck yet...

I have not had a chnace to check them all but those I have have not had the PA's in them or did not include sound. Still have more to check but this was a good reminder and keep pinging me until you have heard from me that I have either checked them all of found something.

    Maybe

Short section (~30 seconds) of "Guilford Diesels on the D&H" (JMJ Productions / Copyright 1988) has a small section with Audio of the PA's passing that might be real audio but most has music backgound with the video footage. That is all I have found within my video collection.

Once the NKP#190 is fully operational we can once again hear one the the ex-D&H PA's roar again.

    Darren,

Thanks. I'll have to see if I can get that one. I guess I can tolerate "Big G" for real PA sound.

BTW, hate to disappoint'cha, but Doyle McCormack has modified the former D&H #18 to pretty much match exactly a Nickle Plate PA.... including the horn. The former horn was a Leslie five-chimer, but the one on there now is a Nathan (I believe) that will have a fundamentally different sound. I still want to ride behind her, though.

I've exchanged several emails with Doyle suggesting a coast-to-coast inaugural fantrip for the 190 once she's finished that he seemed at least mildly interested in. The idea is to start out in L.A. and go to Chicago on her original territory. From there she could head to Buffalo on her "honorary" NKP rails, then take the Southern Tier to Binghamton and run up and down the D&H. After that she could go over to Boston for a little reminiscing of her days as a commuter engine.

Hey! I wounder if Bill Withun would consent to rebuilding the #16 as a cab control car to accompany the 190 for easy run-around purposes on such a whirlwind odyssey!

Did you want before or after rebuild sound? The Guilford clip is after rebuild to what was called a PA-4. (251 prime mover)

Either/or, Big Al. What I'm most interested in is the sound of their horns when they were on the D&H. I figure video or movie footage with real, recorded at the same time sound should do the trick.

    D&H 7312 still has her D&H installed horn, also a Leslie Super-Typhon, although its a 3 chime.
