Now back at the Distillery Building which was formerly a MP kit, Jackson Meat Packing. Alot of re-arranging went on and a new loading dock was added and the entire structure went onto a higher foundation.

A end on shot showing the narrower profile to fit better in the small yard. Then I went and built that danged sprawling Brewery building so there will be a redesign on the master track plan.

Building and installing roof platforms for the two big ventilators over the stills.

And could this be the prototype for Olde Maude the Spirit Works switcher? Stay tuned.

Added some more equipment and a chimney to the main roof area. And started the used sour mash bin. Also assembling a large cooling unit for the winery portion.

The sour mash bin is from left over MP Sawmill Kit parts and the base is styrene and H girders. The large cooling unit is from Alloy Forms.

Now building cooling towers to go on low flat roof section. Big blower is from a sawmill kit and goes on low pitched roof. Rest of parts from same kit used for used mash bin and concrete and steel I beam support for same seen at center. Cooling towers are made from styrene square tube and Grandt Line eave vent and bracket set supply the sides for the cooling tower. Bottom trays made from stock styrene and styrene L shape for the sides.

Steel supports going on roof and at ground level for cooling towers, AC unit and verticle tank. Blower now mounted on low pitched roof and mash bin mounted on its supports at right side, bottom of photo.

Shot of the installed cooling towers made from styrene square tube with Grandt Line eave vents laminated on for the louvered slats of the tower and then round styrene tube and Gold Medals brass fan grills for the fan assembly. Also fabricated a blower from styrene for top of mash bin.
Also now have the Walthers vertical tank installed on the roof and more stairs installed at end of front loading dock.
In keeping with the connection between industries on what will be the new layout, the car made about 2 years ago now that will be spotted at the used mash bin.
That delivers the used mash to be converted into feed for the Turtle Farm whose main product is Turtle Soups.

Rolling onward closer to completion have added an additional roof section to front loading dock, and finally installing piping and duct work.
Now installing roof area over front entrance and rear loading dock. Also installed assembled squirrel cage blower above rear loading dock and added car loading chute to mash bin. Also fabricating a rear roof access stair at low end and possibly another off of middle roof to upper roof. Either that or a roof hatch.

Added stairs to roof at end. Stairs and railings from left over Walthers Icehouse kit parts. Rest is from styrene stock. Also seen on main roof (3 story part) is a side view of the roof access created there. Intersting use of a Grandt Line Outhouse kit parts. Used some of the left over pieces from cutting the end walls of another structure from board and batten stock, trimmed down some, the front and rear sides from the outhouse kit, and four of the roof sections spliced together. Hmm, tempted to just leave the old half moon above the door and see who spots it.

    And the outhouse roof access.

    John,
How close are you to finishing the whole complex?

Everything so far is great! You have great modeling skills. Thanks for sharing your progress.

Added a 2nd set of stairs to access middle roof area from flat roof and finally got the roof over the main entrance. Also added some more piping that came with the original kit and another piece of equipment to the main roof. Loading docks got another coat of a darker stain, and two light poles have been added at either end of the front loading dock.
The original designer of this kit evidently knew little about building codes or practices since this kit like some others was seriously in need of adequate doors. Thus I have doors both within the front sliding doors at the loading dock, but also at the rear dock that serve as exit doors within the loading dock doors. Still have some railings to install at a set of stairs and some work to do on the brick sides.

Thank everyone for the kind comments. And some answers to the questions. The original layout was torn down and carefully packed away in preparation for my eventual move out of the area and into a nice walk out basement that has a house attached. Part of the structures seen in my structures sub album were once part of that layout. The new layout will follow Ntrak designs in that it will be limited to not over 36 inches in depth and be constructed in short sections from 4 to 6 feet in length. Once the sections are built and connected in the new basement with house attached, the modules will be ready to be set onto the subbase and attached with screws for easy removal and repair should I ever invite Pete over and he falls off a stepladder through the lumber mill. In short quite a bit of the new layout main areas will be already constructed and ready to be set in. I just then have to fill in the areas in between. Some of the modules contain either sections of the branch line or the main line trackage already.

This module started planning some time back and is a 20 inch long by 16.25 inch wide section and will contain the 6 buildings of this complex.
The current featured structure is 105 long by 54 wide all in N scale feet. This is a little longer than the original kit since I re-arranged the layout, but also a little narrower than the original kit. This will be the 3rd building completed, with two more partially done, and the last one, the Brewery awaiting the trim and roof. Once the buildings are set on the module, additional features will be added that are not practical at this time such as steam lines from the power plant, graineries, and the chutes to get the grain into the distillery. A modified grain elevator is part of this complex for receiving, storage, and cleaning of grains, hops, etc. The elevator facility will also be the bulk alcohol loading point. Once I complete these buildings I then move on to Olde Maude the motive power for the facility and finishing the private owner cars.

Now starting to weather the brick on this 50 year old building first with a white acrylic wash to bring out the mortar lines then with some Bragdons weathered brick. Also fabricating downspouts, again from styrene channel, and using Period Miniatures scuppers ACCd to the gutters. Once again copper gutters and downspouts and lightning rods again get added to the roof line. Rain gutter is seen laying on loading dock waiting for glue to dry to paint.
Added Period Miniatures lights. Note on both poles at stair landings on left and right of photo, above doors and below roof at loading dock, and just barely visiable at top of three story section on end over looking the cooling towers. Also lights on loading dock at side and rear.

Hope to have gutters made and on by this weekend and weathering completed to wrap up this structure

    Finished Distillery/Winery building.

Completed the last items today and time to set this one aside for now.
Still have to add the signs/company logo and when it goes on the module it gets steam pipes from the Powerhouse and grain chutes from the grain elevators connected to it.
The copper rain gutters and downspouts are on and if you notice the one on the front loading dock roof it goes through the dock to discharge down at track level. Visable in stonework below wood bumper. Building is weathered with white acrylic and Bragdon aged brick dust. Lightning rods on roof. Still have to apply no smoking signs etc. Winery portion at this end. Although it doesn't show much streaks of rust etc. have been added around verticle tanks and used mash bin.
Although it doesn't again show much some green algae stains are on concrete below downspouts and again a liberal coating of dust from the grain bins that will be here along with the used mash bin. Again a downspout goes through the rear loading dock to exit at track level and the rear lights are seen here.
The distillery end of the building. The white is showing through too much with the camera flash, although with the naked eye it looks OK. I'll probably tone this down with another coat of the Bragdon aged brick powder to get more red showing.

    Distillery end roof shot.
And a shot of the Winery end. Temperature control is a big factor in wine making thus the HVAC systems.
And a shot of the first three buildings of the 6 building complex.
This is it for the buildings for awhile I need to take a break from structures. So it will be back to working on the private cars for this complex and time to start Olde Maude the Spirit Works motive power for plant switching.
