I've posted before about rebuilding my entire layout. Well this time, I decided to try to do things the smart way: Put up the backdrop and paint it first, then work on the rest of the layout.

Here's a couple pictures of the progress: [IMG]
This shows the first piece of masonite installed against the built in shelf.

Here's the second sheet installed and spackled.

Next step is to attach the side sheets and then to paint it with a sky blue color.

Sorry about the quality of the pics. It's a cheap digital camera, no flash and flourscent lites.

YOu won't regret doing your backdrop first and you will be amazed how "finished" the layout looks, even before you have laid track. And while you are building, the theme will have already been established. Good luck.

Also, don't do too much work...lol. I am starting "Lonely Hearts Club Band - Part Two" in about a week. So save some work, so you can post your progress.

Actually, this is the week for me to get some progress done. I am on vacation, although staying at home.

There is a small honey-do list. But not so much that I can't get time for the railroad.

Tonight, I finished getting the rest of the backdrop up, now having backdrop on three sides of the room.

The removable duckunder looks like it have to be in place permanently. :( [IMG] But, that's a small price for the extra running room.(might be a problem later on, crawling under to get to the layout).

    No pics of tonight's progress.

    Hey Rev
Catt and I saw a duck under that is no longer a duck under this weekend. This gentleman has taken 2 sets heavy duty full extension drawer slides and mounted them vertically. Using a hand winch or electric with one pc. of very strong rope it can be raised so the duck under is no more. I am going to get some photos in the next week or two and post them. It is a very neat and ingenious contraption.

Larry, I would love to see the picture. My problem is the ceiling in the basement is VERY low (7 feet max, someplaces even lower)

On the progress side, I've got all the masonite up and began some experiments on it. I'm thinking about hiding the seam as well as the corners with pieces of wallpaper. I tried it and it looks really promising. There is a small seam where the wallpaper ends but not too bad.

On the negative side, the gallon of paint I bought to paint the sky with is WAY too light. In fact, it's about three shades too white. I will take it back to Menard's and have them darken it.

Didn't bother to take pictures tonight, since it wasn't a good result.

    More progress to report.

I got the paint and have gotten a coat on the masonite. It looks pretty good. Still haven't decided on how to address the seams. Leaning towards trying the wallpaper route.

Here's a couple pictures. Sorry about the quality, it's a cheap camera.
