This was our ride to Dubrovnik from Cavtat, a one-hour cruise. Behind can be seen part of the massive city walls and fortifications.
Awesome! Thanks for posting. Random thoughts: I wish I was in the red roof tile business. Why didn't you hang around that beach busy until something good happened? Who was that old fellow that you kept running into? Charlie
Looks a great place, and looks like you had a great holiday! My wife notices that I have a habit of going on holiday to places that 'just happen' to be near railways tho! :embarrassed:
pretty nice photos buddy, looks like a neat place to go, i was wondering if it was the croatia that went throught that war...thot it looked to nice to be that...well, that is untill you said it was!
My thoughts exactly about the tile business Next time we go it will be later into the summer, to check out the beach
Martyn, this is the first time we have gone somewhere without a railway in easy reach next time we will go to northern Croatia, where they do have trains
It is amazing that there were very few signs of a conflict having taken place. We went to Dubrovnik on the bus the first time and passed some hotels which looked derelict, but otherwise ok. When we went again on the boat, we could see lots of shell holes where they had been bombarded from the sea.
I guess my idea of a "beach" is something with a lot more sand. Looks like almost solid rock? Boxcab E50
Interesting beach, eh? Windy? Nah, not after spending 3 years in windy, wonderful, Wyoming... At least for me!
"Beaches" in the Dubrovnik/Cavtat area are just rocky ledges which have been levelled a bit with concrete! The only sandy beaches are on some of the 1,250+ islands along the Adriatic coast. It was a bit breesy when those harbour shots were taken, but very warm. We waited for a calmer day to go on the boat
Concrete? Ugh. Not exactly my idea of romantic getaway setting. Makes me think of a parking lot. Too bad they didn't use sand or a pea gravel. But the view, with or without garments...... Boxcab E50
Yeah, it ain't black! Nice shots, Alan. There's something about European cities no matter where they are. Nowt like thart 'ere!
It is just a way of fitting as much sunbathing spaces along a very rocky coastine Our hotel, and others have dedicated bathing platforms near the sea. This one was ours, down several steps alongside the harbour/marina, this shows only a small part, it is quite a big area, and for hotel guests only. The swimming area is protected by bouys, so you don't get run down by boats or jetskis whilst swimming. In a week or two time the bar/restaurant will be open and the place will be full
Gosh, it looks beautiful, Alan. Guiness @ 3.30pounds per 1/3 liter??? I would avoid it too, and we think gasoline in the US is expensive!!! It is hard to believe the war that ravaged all of Bosnia-Herzogovina-Croatia just a few years ago when viewing your photos. 32 years ago when I was visiting Court Line Aviation in Luton, I believe that their most popular spot for holiday travelers was Dubrovnik. Is this still true? You and I should probably never go on holiday together. There isn't enough beer out there. :teeth:
Yup, Dubrovnik is very popular. It was quite busy when we were there, but will get much busier during the mid summer. Up to six cruise ships visit the city each day! mg: mg:
