I recently became the proud owner of a pile of MDC 36' old-timer reefers and a few 36' boxcars of indeterminate origin (which give me a reason to look into getting a 4-4-0  ). Some of them aren't bad, but some of them are ratty and many (particularly the reefers) are duplicates. Where can one get decals for old-timer cars, like billboard reefers or turn-of-the-century freight cars?

    Hi Ray
I've similar aspirations for late 30's stuff and although I havent bougth ay yet <http://www.greatdecals.com/Griffin.htm> seems to be well respected and prolific supplier...
Not exactly clear on how you purchase, by sheets or 'numbers ' per sheet... but sure nice to see samples...

    Dry Transfers

Buy a catalog from Russ Clover at cloverhouse, they have dry transfers for those old timers They take a few more steps to apply but work great.

The Art Griffin decals are great and so are the Clover House dry transfers. Art Griffin can make any decal set in N scale, but not all of the Clover House transfers are available in N. Mr. Clover had told me that he is trying to sell the business so I don't know which sets are in stock and which are not.

You might also look into the Athearn 2-8-0, the MDC 2-8-0 or MDC 2-6-0. They are more reliable than the MP eight-wheeler. The Athearn is a copy of the MDC.

Athearn has been sticking to six roads, only: ATSF, V&T, D&RG, B&O, PRR and Southern. MDC issued them in more roads. TrainWorld has the moguls for fifty bananas and undecorated consolidateds for sixty.

If you want a lettered MDC 2-8-0, you will have to look at show or try TASTWDNMOTAF.

MDC sold and Athearn sells wood cabooses for these cars and locomotives.

This was made from a MDC boxcar recieved from Kiz, and 3rdrail (Gregg) supplied me with the parts.

I finally got over to see The Freight Yard's new shop and got the list of premier plus decals. They have 18 different decals for 36' reefers and 5 for 36' boxcars.

Where are they at, or is there a website? I've found a lot of good stuff at Art Griffin's site, far more than I had expected to find, actually. This looks like it will be a fun project.

The Freight Yard opened recently in Phoenix, AZ. Their website doesn't appear to be up yet but there is a e-mail address that you might be able to get the decal list.

    premier-plus@qwest.net

I don't know if it is a working e-mail or not.

If you go to the MicroScale website and the N decal catolgue section check the info. given to the side of the decal listing and it usually gives a time period that that decal will cover and sometimes whether it is the ice reefers or wood boxcars.
