I've seen ads for the P2K FA1s and Stewart VO1000s in Frisco colors- has anyone bought or seen these locomotives in action? I've got an itch to get the little Baldwin switcher this year, as well as the GP15-1s from Walthers (Yes I know, wrong color red, but a little weathering covers most sins, just like gravy on bad food ). How'd you guys do this holiday season? Highball QLA!!!!!!! ------------------ Southeast....Southwest.. Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T. I've seen the FA and FB in the hobby shop--they looked really sharp. As they were packaged in this store, they come in an A-B set, both units being powered. Price was a little lofty, although probably worth it. I kind of wish I could get the A only or a dummy B, don't really need both powered.
I have both sets of the FA1's and they seem to run and track well. They have good detail and the paint job is excellent. The only draw back is that they are painted as delivered new to the Frisco and that might bother some people. They are DCC ready. All you have to do is put the decoder in, put the couplers on, and start playing. I don't think the Stewart VO1000's are in the stores yet, at least I have not seen them. If they are like previous Stewart products they should be good performers. Has anyone had experiences with the Athearn USRA light Mikado's? I purchased one several months ago and just got around to putting a decoder in it. It took me a day and half to figure out what was causing it to derail, then one of the side rods got in a bind and bent, and now it has an intermittent eletrical short. Not what I was expecting.
Jerome, Even though I model the Frisco in the mid-to-late 1970s, I still think the FA/FB1's colors look good. And I have a GE 44-tonner, RS1, RS2M and GP7 in the black & yellow, which I run when I feel like it (my RR ). By the way, from one Frisco Fan to another, welcome to Trainboard! ------------------ Southeast....Southwest.. Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T. I've seen the FA1's also and they do look very nice. I've been thinking about purchasing a set. I model the 1978-1980 time frame, but just might run them anyway. Like one fellow said it's my railroad. I have an Atlas RS1 being custom painted in FRISCO's mandarin and white scheme. I realize the FRISCO's RS1's never made it into this scheme, but I like the RS1 and thought one would look sharp in that scheme. Go for it! Buy the FA1's.
I just checked out the One Railroad Avenue website (checking on a rumor on the FMIG board), and apparently Life-Like is expecting to release the Proto2000 Phase I GP7 in HO scale- sadly, not in Frisco but the right model type. Release date is supposed to be May of this year. If it runs anything like the other P2K engines, it oughta be good! And, it's good for any time from 1951 to 1979.
I just read the review in April's Model Railroader about Stewart's new VO1000, and the model itself doesn't look bad at all! The picture I saw of the Frisco version is awful- wrong type lettering (again) . You'd think they'd learn from the U25B and F-unit mistakes....FWIW, you're better off buying the undec model, detailing it to your favorite road number (Baldwin had many varieties of exhaust setups) and painting & decaling it yourself. Wonder how it would look kitbashed to represent the EMD-reepowered switcher....
Hello Bob; In your last post you mentioned mistakes made on the Stewart F7's. What were the mistakes? Thanks. Dale
