I have a mid-1950s Santa Fe layout. A friend in need of cash was selling off some of his RR eqpt, and I bought an old Minitrix catalog #3246, 40' steel hinged-door iced reefer, Burlington Refrigerator Express BREX 67170. I looked in my April 1954 Official Railroad Equipment Register and found that CB&Q had several number series of reefers that did not include this # but not far off, and dimensions appeared similar. The car is green with all-white lettering. Burlington Route is in one-color white which does not look convincing to this uniformed modeler.

Can any Burlington expert/ modeler/ fan tell me when and if Burlington ran these green refrigerator cars?

Is it a con-cor-style knockoff of this?

No, it is by Minitrix (aka Trix, sometimes aka Model Power?)
    40 foot (RBBQ 77175 looks like 50')
HINGED swinging double-doors, door opening about scale 50" wide x 78" tall.
10-panel steel sides, riveted seams, no ribs.
Small trapezoidal-shaped gussets below the side sill where steel side is attached to underframe cross-members.
I don't believe the RBBQ 77175 that HemiAdda2d showed is even a refrigerator car, no icing hatches nor mechanical refrigeration shows-- perhaps it is an insulated box?

Good eye! I never realized it is not a reefer. Maybe just a simple insulated 50' boxcar. It is now at Colorado RR Museum in Golden, CO. I wish I had a book to tell me if that car is correct, or even close, but all I have is GN.

    Ken,
My CB&Q Color Guide shows all reefers painted reefer yellow. The green cars were insulated boxcars that started arriving in 1961 with reporting marks RBBQ & RBBX. The car in Hemi's picture is from series 77100-77249 built in 1967. Also the green CB&Q cars weren't BN green. I was looking at the picture again & it's been repainted BN green but has the CB&Q style of lettering.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks Tom! I didn't know the green Q boxcars were not BN green, but wouldn't know any better not having any info on them...

Thanks Tom and HemiAdda2d. A yellow Burlington reefer would be nice-- I will have to check over my model, my paint and my decals.

    Ken,
If you're going to paint one I'll give some more info. My book only shows 2 series of steel ice reefers with the hinged doors. The 1st were 74730-74999 blt beginning in April 1937, blt in Plattesmouth, NE by the Q's own shops. The 2nd were 74200-74399 blt between 8-49 & 1-50, blt by Fruit Growers Express. The bodies are reefer yellow, mineral brown ends, black underbodies, & aluminum roofs, with black lettering (BREX) & the Burlington Route hearld.

    Hemi,
The Q did have some cars painted BN green that arrived or were rebuilt closer to the merger. They just had Burlington on the side of the car (like your picture, but BN style of lettering) so all they had to do was paint Northern under it. They still had CB&Q reporting marks.
