I've been a modeler for years, but I'm new to the Seaboard. Now that Athearn has released a USRA mike I'm really interested in trying to turn one (or more) into a Q3. Here is what I know so far. They had cross-compound air compressors mounted on the front, Franklin booster trailing trucks, and Vanderbuilt tenders. I could live without the Frainklin booster, but not the others. Does anyone have an idea for a model of the tender. Where could I find the compressors. In the April '94 issue of Model Railroading there was an article about a freelanced Q3 pacific. I still am looking for a copy of that issue. Also, i found a site with locomotive drawings from '29 and the front dome on the Q3 looks futher back than on the Athearn model. Any ideas or information would be appreciated.
