I found out today that the last remaining Western Maryland "signature" Chop-nose GP7 was scrapped. It was #22 for Western Maryland before she was a chessie unit and remained in circus colors her whole chessie life. Was numbered to 5634. Was in McKeesport, PA for the last several years in storage will a bunch of old Amtrak cars. Supposedly the WM Historical Society was trying to get the old fart who runs the scrap yard to sell it to them (and they were going to pay well for it!) so they could lease it to the West Virginia Central over in Elkins, WV. But the ******* decided he'd get more satisfaction by scrapping it. [ March 11, 2005, 10:53 PM: Message edited by: A&A 6183 ]
As a side note, there is an ex WM Geep on the Great Walton Railroad, but it is at GP9 and has been rebuilt since her WM days and in Chessie paint. [ March 11, 2005, 10:54 PM: Message edited by: A&A 6183 ]
What a bummer! I've read too many similar sad stories over the years. We lose uncounted historical items, railroad and more, every day. Boxcab E50
NICE picture! SAD to hear of the historical loss tho, thats something that be nice to stop if possible but, its gone so.
I am curious if anyone has information about the other equipment that was with the unit in PA. Specifically the ex Norfolk and Western baggage car. Pictures would be wonderful but any information on its condition would be helpful. Thanks. Brian
