A news article in Thursday's (8/22/02) Trains.Com Newswire says that CSX and UP are running Tropicana shipments between Florida and Los Angeles. The article says that CSX runs the Tropicana cars from Florida up to Atlanta, attaches them onto Q-193 for New Orleans, then hands them off to UP on IATCI. What I find puzzling is why CSX routes the cars the long way around via Atlanta instead of routing them over the direct line between Jacksonville and New Orleans. Does anyone have an idea what the reason might be?
