Finally, a day with sunshine. Here is a crossing gate location in Redding with a Griswold Co. gate mechanism. The second photo shows the gate arm connection to the mechanism. It has a shear pin which allows the arm to swing if hit by an auto and some types will allow the arm to drop to the ground. The third photo shows the entire crossing.

The last photo is another crossing with a different type of gate mechanism. It is either a Safetran Co. or a Raco Co. but I did not get close enough to see which it was. This crossing also has cantilever fixtures for additional flashing lights. The preview for motorists is much better when they are up above the highway

You seem to have got the hang of the camera Alan, the pictures are excellent. What make of camera and how many megapixels?

Sorry, I've just seen page 2 of the topic where my question is answered. Fuji cams are good and 3 megapixels is well adequate for posting pics to the internet.

Thanks for the tip Martyn, I will definitely give Barnetby a try a bit later in the year (longer days) [IMG]

Any more pictures from there? How about a topic, or put some in your railimages album.

I would also like to have a day in the Ipswich area to see all the intermodal from Felixtowe.

Thanks Gil. Your barriers appear to only cover half the road width at the entry side of the crossing, which enables cars to drive around them! Saw that a few times on my visits over there!

I will get some pics of two or more different crossings here in Spalding in the next day or so.
