A few years ago Flying Scotsman came through Spalding on a special train. The locomotive and support coach arrived early from Peterborough to await the arrival of the diesel hauled special from London. At that time steam locomotives were not allowed south of Peterborough. Whilst awaiting the special, a DMU arrived from Lincoln.
This series of pictures were scanned from slides, and may be a bit fuzzy! The class 47 diesel has arrived in the station, left the train and has moved out so that Flying Scotsman can back onto the train.
Argh! Your posting these photos, reminded me that somewhere I have train orders for a visit of the Flying Scotsman steam engine to North America. I've been tearing through files and boxes. But now I can't find the paperwork. Boxcab E50
Very nice Alan - a great impression of power as the loco blasts away from the start, sanders on to prevent slipping (those 3 cylinder locos often seemed to be a bit light on their feet?). It looks a little wintery - was it that time of year? Ben
Ben, it was during the winter season but not quite sure what month. Must look up my records. Jim, sometime in the 1970's I suspect, as that was when I mainly shot slides. I will see if I can pin down the date.
Anyway, whenever and whatever time of year it was, it is a lovely sequence of photos. If I can get some more time on the computer over the impending dreaded Christmas season (the WORST time of year) I will scan and post some more of my own historic shots. Ben
