Whoow Dude! There'd be an odd Train Order on a layout. 5hr. delay at _____, due to crashed plane. Bummer for the guy. Bummer on the lose of work time for the Rail. Glad no others hurt, he coulda hit a chemical tanker, or worse.
Not to be cynical but did you catch the name of the pilot? Looks middle eastern to me. Sorry, but these things are always on my mind. Russ
Argh! We're right in approach path for landings at the airport. Now every time I'm hearing one fly over, I'm thinking about an incident like this one. Boxcab E50
I remember a story about an Air Show, where the pilot of a Stealth Fighter was turning, and the jet crumbled. He was about six miles from the airport. Saw images of a farmer that almost got run through with a 10ft. long spear of "water." This was shortly before airlines were forbidden to dump their toilets in flight. Your numbers up... it's up!
This happened on the west side of Lost Nation Airport. We live on the east approach. Planes are always flying low through here. You get used to it until something like this happens. At least he pointed the plane into a clearing such as it was and may have saved some lives in the process. The pilot had worked for a company that does arial surveying. He had worked there for many years and was well thought of. In addition, he was engaged to be married next month.
Just heard preliminary reports state that the airport may have fueled the twin piston engined Cessna with Jet-A. OOOOPS!
With the Statement: That's not my department... As long as people just don't care about the other guy... Oh, Boy! Here comes a with some So I'll just go now...
WOW!!!!!!! Just think what was going through the engineers head when they stopped his train just before he impacted with what was left.
As long as human beings are involved something will go wrong, especially if one person, somewhere, doesn't have his or her head pulled clear. I'm actually more amazed nobody got hit on the ground, and the train didn't plow into the wreck. [ 23. May 2004, 02:58: Message edited by: friscobob ]
Human error is probably the single greatest cause of accidents involving anything with moving parts. I know that in my line of work, we always have to create our own electricity. Until fairly recently, we'd have both diesel and gasoline powered generators. I'll leave it to the learned members of the group (and to the other 95% as well ) to figure what happens when a diesel gets filled with gasoline. Off on a tangent, the Air Force has in the past listed the cause of some accidents as CFIG - Controlled Flight Into Ground.
