My high school and college colors (Oklahoma State) are orange and black, so you would expect me to like the Milwaukee Road and/or Illinois Central. Nothing wrong with eithre of those lines at all.

I'm rather partial to red, yellow, white & gold (the colors on the Frisco "racehorse" E8s), as well as the Mandarin red & white scheme (and the black w/yellow catwhiskers on the GP7s)

Santa Fe blue and yellow. My school colour was blue, but don't think this had any influence on my choice ;)

Even though I model SP's Bloody Nose & Black Widow schemes, I like Boston & Maine's maroon, gold, and black scheme. If I ever did a custom short line, these are the colors I'd choose.

Boston & Maine maroon with gold stripes for their road engines and later switchers, and black with red stripes outlined in white for their early switchers.

College was light blue and white, but their football team was something else ... ! I think they hold the record for the longest continuous losing season ... around 70 consecutive games! The games were a blast ... nobody cared what was happening down on the field, it was the plays being made in the stands that were exciting!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Mine would be the yellow and black markings along with the red and yellow company logos on the J2 and J3 Dixie Type locomotives of the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway.

Favorite railroad ERIE, so favorite colors their beautiful green/grey/yellow, and LACKAWANNA is probably second, HOWEVER, many others also in running: ACL, SAL, SOUTHERN, IC, GN, UP, Maine Central, CPR.

    Jim,
    Welcome to Trainboard!!!!

Quite an interesting list you have there. I'll agree with Southern- that black with the "white" & goldband makes every diesel looks like it's wearing a tuxedo.

I noticed you didn't mention the Lehigh Valley. All the colors & variations that road had would make someone go crazy

As for me, I'll take the Red, White and Blue of the American Freedom Train!

I like so many RR colors already mentioned. Guess I'd go with the Erie Lackawanna's maroon and grey. Very classy! And the grey's of the 20th Century Limited. And the black and red of the ATSF War Bonnet scheme! Also, New Haven colors! Orange/black or red/black!

For those "practical" bland colors on freight cars and such, how about Pullman Green as my first choice. Simple, and ya gotta love it on an old boxcar! Or Mineral Brown! Faded yellows and oranges on work trains are cool too!

Steam engines of any road in black of course are mighty cool.

20th Century- Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway with Southern Railway and affiliated lines a close second. Two runners up are the Cincinatti, New Orleans and Texas Pacific Railway and the Western and Atlantic Railroad, both of which are government owned roads but are both leased to other operators (NS and CSXT). CNO&TP is owned by the City of Cincinatti, Ohio and the W&A by the State of Georgia. The W&A was actually government operated from 1845 to 1889.

19th Century- Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad (predecessor to Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway) and the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad. The ET&G merged in 1869 with the East Tennessee and Virginia Railroad, forming the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad which was later to form half of the Southern.
