I put my son and a friend of his on the Sunset Limited last night in Houston. The first engine was #84, still wearing its Toyota Tundra Pickup Truck paint job. Looking a little shabby. The train was only 30 minutes late comming into Houston but had to wait for an hour at Englewood before UP moved a container train parked at the Amtrack Depot. I just heard from my son, they finally made it to El Paso four hours late. UP must have a thing about trucks on the rails. Competition for their high railers?
I was just talking to my daughter who is going to college in San Antonio. She was a band nerd in high school and a student of anything musical. In tagging along on some of my train chasing she picked up real quick on the sound of train horns and could identify Amtrak by the sound. The other night she woke up around 4 AM. From her dorm on a hillside looking over San Antonio, she could hear Amtrak blowing the crossings below. Just then her phone rang and it was her brother on that train with his cell phone. She thought that was real cool.
Would like to see this unit come up our way to the PNW on the Starlight. We had seen alot of other units while they were running short to OAkland now we are back to the usual units 112 thru 120.
