Hiya guys... I've got some flex track sitting in my closet, and some Peco switches. The rail size on these tracks match (so they are the same code), but I want to replace the switches (#4's) with #6's. How can I tell what code they are? I can see the manufacturer details on the bottom of the ties, but nada about what profile they are.

The easiest way to solve this is take some track to a hobby shop professional and ask him and he should know that answer. He can compare to the other code 55, 70, 83, and 100.

From memory the 'code' is the height of the rail (bottom of flange to running surface) in thous (1/1000th inch). So code 100 is 0.1" (2.5mm) high (100/1000") and code 55 is 0.055" (1.4mm) high.

Peco make a code 55 (I think) N gauge track, but it has an extra section below the visible flange (buried in the plastic tie-strip) to give it the strength of something bigger. For this the code size would be the visible height, not including the extension below. You'll understand if you see some - it's a neat idea.
