Rick, is this the train on which the locomotive and cars are covered in fairy lights? Saw a picture of such a train last year, I think.
Not sure what fairy lights are, but the whole train has lights on it. All the containers on the intermodal are freshly painted and they chose containers with great graphics on them. The train is very colourful, the engine is usually a brand new engine - SD90. One Box car opens up into a stage for entertainment. Very nice. Also food collected for the food bank.
Saw one of the trains last year in NY. Really nice show except that it was about the coldest day of the year. Brand new AC unit, spiffy intermodals, the boxcar stage and coaches on the rear, all decorated with Christmas lights and flags. Why doesn't any one else do something like this?
The Christmas train from Canada will be in Oconomwoc, Wisconsin tomrrow. 10 December. Hope to get pics of it. Oh ya, that is southeast part of state. 25 miles west of Milwaukee.
I had the opportunity to see the CP Christmas train in Regina. The train looks great. The entertainers were terrific. Over $5,000 was raised for the local food bank. All in all a super corporate effort. If you ever get the chance it is well worth going to see when it comes to your town. Bravo CP Rail!!
I showed up with my son for the last stop of the Holiday train in Canada in Port Moody. The crowd wasn't that great and I think it is because they moved the stop from Port Coquitlam. The train looked great as always. It arrived a bit early which I think caught some people unaware.
One of the things that I noticed over the scanner when the train went thru Milwaukee was the pride of the employees when they were talking about the "Christmas Train". I never did hear it referred to the "Holiday Train" on the radio.
Darren both of those shots were in Saratoga Springs, NY at the Amtrak platform. CP holiday train on December 3rd or so, D&H Toys for Tots on the 12th or so (that Sunday). I also gaurantee you that the guy who took the first shot stood in front of me while I waited to shoot. I waited for about 10 minutes until people FINALLY realized I was there. Some people didnt even really care, just walked up and did their thing oblivious
Corey, Good to hear from you again there buddy and sorry to hear about your experience that night. I know the feeling you are talking about ; even at my size (6'5") people assume they can just walk in front of me without a care in the world. Hopfully you too were able to get a good shot... Hey, I you seen my newly rebuilt site yet. There are over 1,500 D&H Images now online.
Yes it's an old thread but that's what using the search button will get you. Does anyone have any scheduling info for this year's Holiday train? I'm thinking it should be right around the corner. Mike
that happend to me while i was filming and i turnrd the scanner up when a train was getting a fourm d and they just stood there and than i put the light on the camera on and still did not move so i went in front of them doesent the train start at steamtown PA in scranton i go see it take off at 5:30 at night anyone going to see it in steamtown
and i practicaly froze my butt off waiting for it to leave it was supposed to leave at 5:30 but we made a mistake we asked the crew and they said 6:00 so i went out 9-10 yards away from the crowd so here comes 6:00 only a raidio check on the scanner 15 munuts later here comes permision they said, "holiday train has permission to open up the steamtown Y and double check switch and derail is set over" crew reapeded what the DL dispatcher said so here i am watching the train take off while filming and the bell which sounded nice while the crew and evorybody in the nice warm coaches where all cumfy cozy while i froze out there and my hands where killing me because my god for nothing gloves made me freze that is my CPHT experiance last night next time i am going to ask the crew if they can give me a tour of the cab so i dont freze my butt completely off next time LOL!
Here's a few pics of the CP x-mas train running through Cambridge, Ontario tonight. They have updated the lights from last year on everything but the coaches to LED's and made it look really nice. I've also included a vid as it comes into the yard. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjN94h10VUs]YouTube - CP Christmas Train[/ame] I should have a couple more pics in the daylight soon. My uncle and I chased it down as it came up from Hamilton into Guelph Junction but didn't get my camera in time. Wish we could've gotten more at Guelph Junction but where they parked on the south/west wye didn't allow for any pics.
