My favorite (favourite?) thing about the CPR here in North Dakota is the seemingly endless trains that run on the prairie. Oh, and SD40-2's. As a BN fan, I was somewhat forced to like these locos, but now I take every shot that I can. I do however like the new GE's, especially the 8500's.

My favourite scene of the CPR is a VIA PASSENGER TRAIN with silver fluted cars and those wonderful dome cars! The train is in the Bow Valley Westbound near Castle Mountain. What a sight, I wonder if we will ever see that again. Mel ------------------ " From the Silvery Slocan"
I'm not sure, wish I was around for that! That must have been just a super site to see! I like seeing the Via Rail Canada Canadian through the Rockies though, even if it isn't as spectacular as the spiral tunnels ect... Happy Railroading! My fav part of CP is that it got me taking trains. And that was because of the 1976 movie Silver Streak. Fell in love on the way out and again on the way back. There's nothing like a train.
"The Beaver" Whenever you see "The Beaver" you think CPR. It's unique and truly represents the railraod and Canada's timber industry.
Let's see... An Alco/MLW fleet that lasted a long time. As far as I've been able to determine, excluding wrecks, CP didn't retire any 251-engined power until 1991. That's 20 years after they bought their last new MLW. And despite that, I didn't get to see them. They had retreated from the West before I was born. When I started semi-seriously railfanning, they were running their last miles out East, and I didn't know it. The Multimark era. One of the best examples of application of a "modern image" scheme. Their last 4-6-2s, or more precisely the idea behind them. Lighter duties are better served by new power as well. They didn't destreamline their steam as many other roads did, and examples of streamliners lasted to the final year of steam. Made for impressive power on commuters and local freights in the late 50s.
I'm a Multimark Pacman kind myself, but i'm just now starting to like the System era after messing with SD40-2 decals.
