A cold and snowy Donner Pass was the cause of this snow packed train. It was the ZLTCS-31, the last inter-modal east for 2003. Here it has been partially cleared to allow a crew change in Sparks. The crew said they had plowed through a small snow slide. Greg
Thanks! I was in the cab looking out the back door. We were waiting for the train to leave so I grabbed several shots. It happened to be snowing when I took the picture and didn't want to get the camera wet. Greg
That is an excellent 'on the spot' picture. Shows that it is good to have a camera with you at all times
Boy, I think that looks good; I really like the shot with the UP wings and flags. Haven't seen many of them up here in cheesehead land.
Now that looks COLD! BR-r-r-r-r-r!!! Greg if you are going to be out in that area anyway, perhaps you might have a chance to grab a shot of those big rotaries working deep snow? My Dad and I got to see one working across the valley back when I was a kid! That was a really BIG thrill hearing it charge into the snow, and the whistles echoing along the valley! He had two steamers pushing him. The plume of snow was falling out over the edge of the cliff and all the way to the river several hundred feet below!
How has the snow pack been up there this year? I have a copy of the Pentrex "Snow On The Run" video. From that, I'd think keeping the Pass open could be an intense, costly job. Boxcab E50
