Now that I have a few feet of track down I'd like to run some trains. I have an E6........Proto2000 which is said to be.....DCC ready. It came with a chip in the box. The chip has 8 prongs which look like they would fit nicely into a female plug.....if I could find one. What am I missing here? Howard
The "chip" that you found is probably the dummy plug that goes in the DCC socket when you don't have a decoder installed. The socket is on the light controller board. You would need to remove the dummy plug (if it isn't already removed) and plug in a decoder. Depending on the decoder, you will also need to put resistors on the leads to the lights or replace the bulbs with 12-14 volt bulbs. David
Hi Rob & Yankinoz...........My locomotive doesn't look exactly like your photo but there is some resemblance. I have wires running back from the cab end but they don't connect with a plug. I found what I thought might be the plug and I pried a little chip up and off of it and there it was..........eight prongs waiting for something (a decoder, perhaps) to be attached. Now, the question is, which decoder is appropriate? And do I need to change my headlight? Howard
The TCS T1 has a wiring harness specifically for the E6 available as in the link above. That would be the easiest way, get a T1 and the E6 harness. The harness plugs into the pug you found. http://www.tcsdcc.com/harnesses.html I'm not sure about the headlight - usually on Life Like engines you need to change the 1.5v to a 12 or 14v bulb, but this varies from engine to engine. Anyone out there know abou the E6?
