    Good Day!
I'm thinking on getting a Fuji Finepix s5100.

I don't plan on images larger than 8x10... and those will be few.

It seems I can place diferent lenses on this, true?

Anybody have this/ seen it in use? ...your thoughts?

I was trackside today with a guy shooting with a Fuji; I think it was an s3100. He said he really liked it. His camera was silver and had a 6x or 10x optical lens.

    Ken,
If you know someone who has a Sam's Club membership, have them get the card for you. They have a 256 woo woo woo Xd card for that Fuji for 40 bucks. (for that price, I'd buy 2, but that's just me)
A buddy of mine just bought an S5100, and I have the S5000. VERY similar, but the 5100 has more megapixels, and a few more bells and whistles.

I have not yet used some of the 'bells and whistles' on my S5000  I should be more adventurous [IMG]

I have a 128 woo woo woo card in the camera and a 64 woo woo woo one in reserve. Never ran out yet on a day out (but could need more on a longer holiday). Should get another card, easier than taking the laptop to download the pics to free up space!

Alan- That's the thing with these...
We look for all the bells, but never ring'em.

Sent for one from a firm called Butterfly Camera.
Got it for $277, with shipping. They also, had a
    link for Fuji's $50 rebate.
Now to wait for it, than in 2 weeks p/u the
    bigger cards at Sam's.

Big cards are nice, and a necessity depending on Megapixels.... I have seen 256 mp card in all formats, with Xd being one of the most expensive.... I just picked up a 1 gig CF card for ~ $70, and am looking at larger options, as I can only fit ~ 250 images on it with my current camera.

An average photo is about 4 megabites. I made my first prints today.... they were terrific!

Well my new toy... errr... tool has arrived!
You guys weren't kinding about the bells and
whistles... and hoots ... and hollers...

In my research I hadn't gotten into ALL it did,
some of it seemed more than I'd use...
but now... I just might take up some of them
    options.

Hey guys- Just curious. What is the battery life on one of these beasts? If on an outing, and doing some heavy picture taking....?

I have a Nikon 5000 with a battery pack with six AA batteries. It is good for about three weekends of constant picture taking, outdoors, without the flash. Flash drains them fast!

The original camera had only two AA batteries.

Sounds like they'd last for one good day of fun. That's all I'd need. If ever there's an interesting subject to photo..... They're few and far between in this area.

My Fuji S5000 has four AA size Ni-MH batteries. I always take another fully charged set with me but have never yet needed them. Modern cameras are much more battery life friendly [IMG]

It all depends on what features you use. I have had my camera out for a day on the Moffat Route, on and off all day, zooming in and out all day, and get 200-300 plus shots out a set. Other days, when shooting models in the house, using the LCD (eats power at a high rate), and flash, 5 minutes! The flash, LCD, and zoom tear up batteries. I use NiMH batteries only. Some are newer, some are from my first digicam 4 years ago. So they have been well-traveled.
I keep a whopping 4 full sets with me when I hit the mountain, since I tend to drain a set in the camera a day. The scanner can go for about 15 hours straight, and only needs a new set every day and a half-2 days. They both use AA's.
    HTH!

The extreme cold plays a part as well in battery life.
To get this shot, I had to hold the camera inside my coat till the train arrived at the first crossing, 20 yards outside East Portal. Then I scrambled to set it up on the tripod, compose, and wait for the shot to be just right. If I just set it up, and called it good, batteries may have died while we waited. Warming it back up would rectify that, but in the heat of shooting, that sucks!

I have a Minolta Dimage' 7 digital SLR that operates with 4 AA NiMH batteries that only give me about 30 to 45 minutes of shooting.

My wife has a Sony (I can't recall the model, but not a SLR) that has a battery pack about the size of a 9v. battery and she can walk around all day with the camera on and the battery keeps on going and going and going!

Like Hemi cited, it all depends upon the number of bells and whistles and how you use them. [IMG]

Sounds like there's a bit more to the "learning curve" than just knowing the new bells and whistles.
