Hey guys, I'm steping off my own turf here.. I'm going to model a SD-80MAC.. CSX #801. So I bought me a shell, an notice a few things I have got to get rid of! Not really get rid of but change ;)

    Anyway, heres a picture...

Look at the cab, notice the numberboards above the cab windows, an the high mounted head lights. NOT on the nose.

On the body I bought the nose has the number boards, an a place for a headlight. And the cab above the windows has nothing. What cab do I need? and by who ?? What manufacture I mean, Cannon? etc. I need a part number (if one exists) for the cab I need.

    Any help is appreciated! TIA

Whose shell did you buy? If you bought a Kato SD80MAC shell, it comes correct for CR (correct hood doors, cab, rear sandbox, etc.) and shouldn't need any changes. But if you need a correct cab, You could check with Kato to see if they have SD80MAC cabs available separately.

Failing that, your only other option is to try to buy a separate SD75I cab from Athearn (Cannon doesn't produce any safetycab kits). IIRC, the BNSF version has high numberboards, but nose mounted headlights - filling those in shouldn't be a problem, though. It also shouldn't be too hard to add the high headlights and CR-style markers. AFAIK, this is as close as you can get to the SD80MAC style cab - offhand, I can't think of any other RR's that got "I" cabs with high headlights and number boards.

    Paul,
I bought a Rail Power Products SD-90MAC-H shell to convert to a SD-80MAC. The cab is RPP too an isn't right. I'll see what Kato may have, an if nothing, Athearn an then if it comes to no other resort, I'll fill in the head light indentaion, an sand off the low "nose" mounted number boards, an buy detail parts to add the number boards on the cab above the windows and the headlight (if possible).

KATO's cab is most likely out of the question.(not sold seperately).Your best bet would be to try and get the correct cab from Athearn or modifly the RPP cab.(All EMDs with the isolated cab use the same cab with just the lights and # boards relocated).Detail Associates and or Details West should have the parts you need.

Thanks Jon! I appreciate it.. I'm going to look into getting the detail parts I need for the cab I need, an then fill in the head light location on the noce an file off the low mounted number boards. I would probably be better off going this route!

As for this, I got another question, what company, Detail Associates or Details West, would have the parts I'm going to need? And if someone knows.... For the love of me doing an SD-80MAX please give me some part numbers! As This is all new to me. I'm good for doing steam pretty slick, but this diesel thing could really loose me fast, being their are litterally tons of different parts that all are about the same in looks. As this is the first ever diesel I ever sat down to detail like I do the steamers I build. So this is all new to me being I never really got into any diesels this new.. mostly the deisels I done detail work too were first an second generation diesels. Never anything this new. BUT I have too :D I like the looks of the 80 an 90MAC's.... And being the 80MAC fits into CSX well.. Fits my railroads of choice! :D

A good source of info for modeling the SD80MAC would be Model Railroader October 1998.

They start with a RPP SD90 shell and transform it into an SD80

Heres a sample of the work.

Thanks for the welcome. Model railroaders are the nicest people I’ve ever met. :D

Yea sure I can scan the article and email it to you. Can I zip it up?

About me and what I do.
Well I'm 18 and live in South Australia, it's a small place and not much really goes on here. I work for a company called Voyage Computers (hehe free advertising) I do tech support there. I started model railroading in late 1994 and you know the rest...........

Ok now onto the good stuff.
I've just started to build a new layout, this is my 3rd or 4th attempt I hope this time I can actually get somewhere. Its a HO L shaped 10x6' switching layout which I'm making out of recycled wood and so far it looks very rustic :D but its solid and level. I hope soon to have a website up where I will post a track plan and photos on my progress.

I used a program called Microsoft GIF Animator.

I cut out 3 310x100 Pixels pictures out of larger pictures then I used the Gif animator to put them into a slide show. I set each picture to show for 3 seconds and to loop forever.

I have disassembled my MR and will scan it. There are 6 pages.

For some reason when you go to save a picture it's called untitled. So you will need to name the picture when you save it. I think this happens because where I have uploaded the pictures.

Heres a scan of just the parts list, make sure you read the whole article so you dont buy parts for the UP SD90MAC.

No probs happy to help. If you need a close up of a picture in the article just ask and I will scan it.

I can't wait to see it finished and in CSX colours. [IMG]
