Europe Hi, all, Anyone have suggestions for any good train shows or significant model RR or railfan museums to visit in Europe this weekend (March 18-19, 2006)? I'm laying over in Europe this weekend, during a business trip. I'm in UK or Germany, could transit through a nearby country to either of those if warranted. Thx so much, everyone, for putting up with my repetitive requests on this topic (smile). I'll be happy to share any pictures that I take. Thx! Shortliner, Thx for the input, and I'll send you an email for addresses and times. Thx for taking the time to give me these suggestions.
There's also a very good one this weekend in Redruth, Cornwall, but that's probably a bit out of the way.
Hi, all, Thank you so very much for the several generous offers of information and excellent suggestions for model RR activities in UK or Germany for the weekend of March 18-19. - - - - 1) After considering them all, I will take Saturday March 18th and attend the UK Nottingham Model Railway Exhibition: http://www.nbmrs.freeserve.co.uk/ Several recommended it, noting it would probably be the largest of the many UK model railroading events happening in that weekend: http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/other/events.html#200603 I will take photos and organize them for sharing with all of you online, after I return. - - - - 2) Thanks to Wolfgang Dudler, the modeler of the beautiful HO Westport Terminal RR: http://www.westportterminal.de/ http://www.railimages.com/gallery/wolfgangdudler for suggesting the Free-Mo Meet in Unna, Germany that same weekend. Too bad I cannot make it, but from the web site below, it looks very interesting and there are some excellent photographs to be enjoyed: http://www.fremo.org/termine/termine.htm (You can cut/paste the above into Google and then get a translated version). From following the above web page's links, I found some wonderful European modeling of US prototypes in N scale, in particular: http://www.america-n.de/ Thx for the suggestion, Wolfgang; hopefully, another time I would be very happy to take advantage of visiting with Free-Mo in Europe. - - - - 3) Finally, I received several suggestions to visit Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg, Germany. In fact, I was fortunate enough to visit there in November of 2005, and posted a series of photos from my visit at: http://community.webshots.com/user/minature_wonderland (note: I didn't notice I mis-spelled 'miniature' when I created the above album and userid - so the 'minature' mis-spelling is the actual name under which I posted the photos). Thx for the suggestions, it was similar suggestions from some of you last November that led me to know about Miniature Wonderland and go visit it in November 2005. Hope you enjoy the pictures; Miniature Wonderland is a superb suggestion for any model railroader traveling in Europe - it is truly one of the 'Do-Not-Miss, Must-See' model railroading wonders of our world. Here is Miniature Wonderland's website URL again for your easy reference: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.de/ - - - - All, I feel very grateful and very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit, and I will do my best to share with all of you a 'you-were-there-too' style of photographic documentation. Thank you again, everyone.
Iain, Tried to find you on PM but you were offline. Will try again.... not sure how much I will be able to be connected on Friday due to work. Thx!
John, Wish I'd seen this post earlier. Too busy I guess. The Netherlands has this cool park or museum, Madurodam. Holland in miniature. When I was there several years ago, Me and my team spent a WHOLE AFTERNOON there. It was incredible! It's in 1:25 scale. It is one HUGE layout. Madurodam
Had a great time at the Nottingham Model Railway Exhibition today. In addition to about 200 photos of some stellar layouts (will organize and post soon), Happened to meet in person (great folks!): - Alan Curtis - NMRA British Region VP Chris Hobbs - NMRA British Region President Nobby Clarke Was a great time. A superb education on UK-style model railroading. Will compose a more detailed recap to come (give me a little time to organize it). BTW, the show had layouts representing: UK, European, Canadian, and USA prototypes. So the layout photos will have something for everyone. *Thx* to all who helped me get there. If not for you, I would never have found it. (smile!)
