I've started a website. I now have some pictures on there of the start of my benchwork. Comments are appreciated. http://members.shaw.ca/paul_davis/

The layout design would not come up, but the photos look like you have a good start Paul. :D

    Hi Paul,
I like the looks of your layout lots of switching and operating capabilities.

The only issue i see is limited storage space or yard facilities. I would suggest a storage yard of at least 4 tracks down the right hand side.

Good luck with the layout and keep us up to date with your progres.

I have reposted your pic here for others to see.

There are two staging yards not pictured. I felt an on layout yard would take up too much space.

I like the fact that it has only the one leg on the benchwork. I have an 8x10' layout, with similar cantelever construction. I was going to say that I like the high track height, but I think you may have a low ceiling going on there. Care to elaborate?

Yes it is a low ceiling. about 5'8" high which is lucky as I'm 5'7" The obstructions on the side bring the hight down even further to about 5'.

It is a very good idea to photograph all stages of the construction, they are good to look back on. I like your substantial framing, should stand the test of time [IMG]

I look forward to more progress photos. Building a new layout is always an exciting time.

    Thanks for all the comments.

I'm very happy with the benchwork. It's perfectly capable of supporting my weight so it should be able to support anything I put on there.

Unfortunaely over the next 3 weeks I'm probably not going to get much done. Hopefully I'll have more pictures in a month or two.

    Brent-

From the grids on his design, I'd say HO, but I could be wrong.

    Paul-

Like the shots- and the idea of just one leg holding up benchwork is a neat idea! Makes it easier to store stuff underneath, troubleshoot wiring, install wiring, etc.

    Please keep us posted! [IMG]

    Yes it is HO.

Ease of installing wiring is definately good. Unlike most people I find the electronics part of the hobby really interesting.
