Shoot, I really don't have a firm number at all, but I think it is somewhere around 35-38. Both Steam and diesel. I really like this hobby 'cause you can never hve too much of anything,LOL
Well, upon counting, I find I have six diesels, and sixteen steam engines. Alco PA/PB set decorated C&O (I know, I know). 2 - P2K H16-44 VGN 2 - Athearn H24-66 VGN 2 - 0-8-0 P2K N&W and VGN 1 - Mantua 0-4-0 N&W 1 - Riv 4-6-2 VGN 1 - BLI 2-8-2 VGN 2 - 4-8-2 N&W (1 Spectrum & 1 Key streamlined) 4 - 4-8-4 N&W (2 brass, 2 Spectrum Bachmann) 2 - BLI 2-6-6-4 N&W 3 - 2-8-8-2 one P2K VGN and 2 N&W Rivs Anxiously waiting on a P2K 2-8-4 VGN with the correct dome after 30 years. One needs however many it takes to make you happy.
Hmm, lets see, I think I'll just stick with stuff that is mostly finished. In HO, I have 5 SD40-2 (2 BN, 2 ATSF, 1 home road) 2 GP40 ATSF 1 Dash 8 40CW ATSF 1 Dash 8 40C (I think?) in CNW 1 C32-8 home road 1 F-9 BN 1 FP45 ATSF superfleet 2 SD-45 home road 1 U36C Zenith electronics (my first HO engine from a special Bachman set. I recently took the shell and put it on an Athearn frame.) 1 SD60M Home road 1 SD60 Home Road 1 GP38-2 ATSF 2 F7 ATSF That's a mix of powered and dummy engines. In N, I have a GP20 BN, GP18 NP, GP38-2 ATSF, S1 UP and 2 C420s one BN the other Southern. Both are going to be repainted.
I have over 140 locomotives all diesel, BN, GN, NP, CBQ, CNW,UP, DRGW and a couple other assorted roads.
I have quite a few, here's a sample: 6 Atlas Santa Fe GP7s 1 Atlas Santa Fe fantasy Trainmasters 3 Atlas Southern Pacific SD9s 2 Atlas Southern Pacific Trainmasters 4 LL Southern Pacific SD7s 4 Kato Santa Fe F7 Passenger units 3 kato Santa Fe E8 Passenger units 3 Kato Santa Fe Passenger PA units 2 Kato Santa Fe C44-9Ws 1 Kato 2-8-2 CN&W 1 LL 2-8-8-2 2 Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 I'd love to have more but after the above, figured I really don't *need* more.
Recent update: 1 GP38-2 in MP colors 2 Baldwin S12s from Athearn 2 Atlas/Kato RS3s 1 Atlas/Roco S2 (may become a Frisco) 1 CF7 (RPP shell on a milled Athearn F7 chassis 1 Bachmann 70-tonner 1 NW2 (Varney shell) on an Athearn SW7 chassis 1 Walthers Trainline GP9M in Kyle RR livery 2 chopnosed Athearn GP7s (one with a CF7 cab a la Santa Fe's Topeka Cab) 1 Model Power/Cox/Lionel chopnosed GP9 shell on a milled Athearn chassis 1 GP7 painted as Texas North Western 100 (an ex-UP GP7, and it shows the UP details) 1 Texas Oklahoma & Eastern GP40 (an Atlas/Roco GP40). Grand total- 15 diesels. And another RS3 coming soon..... ....now to get an RS11......
I have a goodly sized roster pushing between 90 and 100 HO diesels now. I am trying to eliminate those which I can and are out of my time frame of 1965-1990. With the new Athearn SD40T-2, and other nice new loco's my roster is taking a major jump up right now but I'm also evaluating some engines to sell to keep a little balance! I've got all athearn: Amtrak F7A 2-SD40-2's BN 2-GP38-2's BN 2-GP38-2's UP 2-GP38-2's SP 1-U30C SP 2-SW1500's one BN one UP 1-SD9?-shorter wheelbase, still 12wheel, tall nose. BN Just got a bunch of rolling stock from an estate sale on ebay, 12 Burlington coal hoppers, 5 Up hoppers, and 8 assorted covered hoppers. Ended up about $4.50ea shipped for nice cars with kaydee's and the coal cars have real sprung trucks which I thought was pretty cool.
I have a small N scale layout that provides continuing running and several switching opportunities. My Midwest granger shortline owns seven locomotives, including an old steam switcher which pulls a tourist train and a Doodlebug, currently the only passenger hauler. I have nearly 100 cars, a mixture of rolling stock. This is more than enough for my layout. I have a hobby within the hobby: collecting rolling stock of Midwest railroads, mostly from the '40s to the '80s. I limit what I can afford to purchase. I don't buy on whims. Considerable thought is involved before I spend some cash. I had to retire early because of disability (four chronic illnesses now) so what I have to spend is limited. I've attended train shows but I don't always buy. But I had fun. I've successfully taught myself to live within the budget. I have no definite train budget and buy only when I've got extra cash. Unlike the government, I can live with a budget. In fact, I must do so.
The Northern Railway has... Having come into this hobby over 45 years ago, engines just keep coming. "Right", says my wife, who after so many years is ever so understanding... The Trainmasters have been remotored with NWSL motors and road switchers and cab units other than P2K and the occasional Athearn, have Kato drives.
I have 3 loco's (HO scale) a 4-6-4 hudson, 0-8-0 switcher, and a F7 diesel. Is that too many? My daughter has a f7 in N scale as well so we have 4 all together. Eric
Uh oh! Add a Northern Pacific F3A&B combo, an NP RS3 and another BL2 that somehow jumped onto my roster for only $19.00!
Hi.. As a Frisco modeler I try to buy only frisco locos or buy locos that can be striped and re-painted, also super detailed. So far I have.... 2 BLI SW7 (used on my 8'x18" switching layout) 2 Atheran GP40-2 4 Athearn GP38-2 modified and re-painted 1 Atlas GP7 To do list 2 SD-40-2 2 more GP38-2 Wishlist More GP40-2 More SD40-2 1 more GP7 Stuart
Another Frisco modeler! Good on ya! Welcome to Trainboard! MY SLSF roster so far consists of: 3 GP7 (2 Front Range, 1 LifeLike Proto2000) 1 Sw1500 (Athearn) 2 GP15-1 (Walthers Trainline, details added) 3 GP35s (Athearn) 4 GP38ACs (3 Atlas/Roco, 1 new Atlas) 4 GP38-2s (Athearn) 2 GP40-2s (Athearn) 2 SD45s (Athearn/RPP shell, one P2K) 1 SD40-2 (Athearn) 1 F9B (Athearn F7B with added details) 1 GE 44-tonner(Bachmann Spectrum) 1 RS1 (Atlas/Kato) 1 RS2M (Stewart with Front Range GP9 ;ong hood) 1 E8A (LL P2K) 1 2-10-0 Russian Decapod (Spectrum, runs like a Swiss watch) 1 U25B (Stewart) 2 U30Bs (Athearn) I believe in the theory of having 10% of the total roster of the Frisco in the mid-1907s, so I'm still neeeding to do 6 more GP38-2s and three more SD45s. I can use Athearn blue-box GP38-2s for the former, and have some P2K SD45s I bought at deep discount for the latter. Prime rule of accumulating locomotives & rolling stock: Thou shalt not pay full retail I bought a lot of my stuff when money was tight, and hit train shows and sale ads (65 bucks for the SD45s when LifeLike was dumping 'em on the market- they were 140 retail). ANd of course, a dearth of Frisco engines has forced me to detail, paint & decal what I need, which is not a bad thing.
