Thank you for allowing me to join. Big question - just getting back in to RR, got my benchwork done, am goint to cookie cutter layout, area is 4 x 8: what would be a realistic gradiet for an over lapping, flipped figure 8????

Well, I couldn't think of a better description, but it is like an 8 but the top don't join together. Instead they both flow to the outside and join below the bottom. I wanted to elevate the crossover and continue it down one of the outside legs. What i'm really interested in is; what would be an acceptable grade. I'm just getting back into this and can't remember. Would 4% be too much.

I take it you are in HO gauge. Will you be using steam or diesels? If the latter, how many motors in your normal MU.

All that being said, IMHO I think 2.5 to 3.0% is a convienent and comfortable grade, going much over that and you will probably get wheel slipage. But if you're MUing 3 or 4 motors you could probably go to 3.75%

    Good Luck
