    Hello everone.

In a short time, I will have in my hands a Rivarossi 4-8-8-4 4003 (newer version). This one is all black. I do not really like the unprototypical appearance of all black [IMG] , so I'd like to paint it and wheather it. But I was told that the plastic, paint like floquil would distort the plastic. I just would like a second opinion. If floquil would distort the plastic, is there any water-based paint? Thanks for reading and replying.

Polly Scale is a water based paint for use in Air Brushes. Easily obtained at your local hobby shop in all railroad colors. They thin out with water, preferred in distilled. Or something without the chlorine.

Use Pollyscale paint to paint and weather your loco. The Pollyscale paint won't affect the plastic as it's water-based.

Water based paint is good, IMHO. Try a few chalks to touch up or for a slightly different technique.

Thats great thanks. I cannot wait to get it all rusty and dirty. I will get pictures, but first I will have to get it.

And don't forget to give it a clear flat overcoat of some sort. If you have shiny plastic showing under your weathering job it won't look as good. If you are not removing the shell and partially disassembling the engine you may need to mask over things like window glass, running gear and head light.

Thanks, I plan to. I also plan to get the revell monogram BB as backup for boiler/tenderparts. Also, what kind of chalks are used? How do you wheather with chalks? Do you grind them into powder? Thanks for replying.
