Hey guys, Here I am again, looking for parts from a junked up Athearn Impact end/intermediate car. I have one 5 unit set of these cars, bought at a garage sale, missing the trucks, ALL of them! And I went to look at every hobby shop I been too an didn't see the small wheeled (28 inch diameter?) wheels. Anyone have these wheels from replacing them with metal ones? I'd be happy to pay shipping for them. As I got a boat load of trucks, the wheels is all I need. Then, I'm going to have to either one, make the car truck pivot points male end I believe, or order them from Athearn or someplce that has these on stock! I got I believe its the female end truck pivots, But the mails are the ones thats broken, an missing the entire truck, but I only need the wheels because I'll supply the truck frames (as I said I have a boat load of Athearn trucks).

Anyone got anything???? [IMG] Me an buying junked up item's I tell ya, this is gettin bad but for a buck for the whole 5 unit set... I couldn't pass it up, plus a box full of other goodies! :D

John, watch out for this one, the trucks used in these kits are not the standard Athearn trucks, they are much smaller/lower.

I might have some male/female connectors for these in my spares, but not trucks or wheels.

I would order the Impack trucks/wheels from Athearn spares if you haven't got those specifically. If it's just the wheels, then Kadee do 28" wheels, and their pack has the right number of wheelsets to do a 5 car set.

Let me know how many of which body parts you need, and I'll see if I can help with those though.

    All the best

    Martyn,
I need 4 of the male couplings! As I have the Female couplings.

As for the car itself, This will make the 3rd set of 5 unit cars I done. I bought 2 sets new, an seen this set in a box at a garage sale! And for $1.00 I couldn't pass it up (I buy lotsa junk cars like this) and repair them to working order. However, I had read your message an all, an went to look an be darned if the trucks aren't different! So, I guess, I'm going to have to try an get trucks, with wheelsets for the 5 unit car too! [IMG] Go figure! They'd have to be different. HA! This is just my luck!

The last time I got into one of these (and still haven't finished it) is one of Athearns 86 foot piggy back flat cars! I have to get trucks an coupler swing arms for it! I bought that in a big box of junk train parts as well, an it still is setting and waiting on parts for it being, since I got into some of the new stuff with the Sd-80MAC an all, I want some present day cars to go with it being most all of my stuff is steam era! And that big 80MAC, an my 40-8, an 44-9, wouldn't look right pulling steam era cars so. Here I am collecting a different era to run at the "Fun-Run" train shows mike (6206_S1a) and I do.... What fun it is! [IMG]

You didn't mention e-mailing Athearn to see if they had replacement parts -- I would try this, though I'm told they are running out of stock.

You might also consider using the pieces as actual "junk" or remnants of a derailment.

Well thats my thing, I'm a scavenger, I get the cars scraped basically, an if someone has a pile of unwanted parts that they're willing to get rid of, I will help them with things (shipping and such), or even a few dollars for their parts being, it supports their hobby. And then, if nothing else order the parts from the company, but I'd rather help those like myself in the hobby first with some junk parts laying around an all before just jumping the gun an buying them right out from an already rich company to just make them richer an to soak us all bone dry from our own funding of our hobby....

As for the broke parts, they will no doubt end up in one of many scrape gondola cars! :D
