A Couple More Projects Off the Workbench

Here are a couple more the projects I have finally gotten off the workbench.

First up is a custom painted CNJ boxcar I have been working on for for awhile.

Let’s see I still have a New Haven 4-Bay hopper, and a Central Railroad of Pennsylvania hopper to finish before I can put my full effort to Project Freight Car. The New Haven hopper is finished I am in the process of making a coal load for it. The CRP hopper has to be weathered and a coal load added

Tom, they both look great.
This maybe be a dumb question but why do you use the blue washer fluid to thin the paint?
And can you do this with all colors and types of paint?

I use the blue windshield wiper fluid because it works. Actually I started out using craft paints and then I tried Polly Scale paints. I had nothing but problems with the Polly Scale paints and trying to airbrush. I tried all different kinds of thinners, from Polly Scale Airbrush thinner, distilled water, and finally blue windshield wiper fluid. The airbrush thinner caused the paint to flake, the distilled water made the final coat look to chalky for my taste. The blue windshield wiper fluid was suggested to me by several different people and it seemed to do the best job but I was still getting inconsistent results. Also I was having trouble getting the Polly Scale. The hobby store I got it from who was the only one who stocked raised his prices but was slow in getting his shelves restocked. Given the troubles I was having I went back to craft paints and since the best previous success I had was with the windshield washer fluid I stuck with it.

 

Thanks for the tip. I'm getting ready to refinish a GP-38. I'll give it a try and post some photos.
